'Shire v Fort William and Cumbernauld v Buckie will likely be Friday night, as Falkirk and Clyde are at home.

Tricky situation for Edinburgh City - they have 3rd call on Ainslie Park and are playing on Friday 17th in SPFL2 but both Spartans and LTHV drew home ties. Sunday may also be out there depending on womens football.

So we've got East Stirlingshire v Fort William and Cumbernauld Colts v Buckie on Friday (latter 8pm); 26 ties on Saturday (including Penicuik v Tranent at 2:30pm); LTHV v Edinburgh Uni on Sunday; and Berwick v Gretna on Monday.

Most postponements or replays would be a week on Saturday, but there are some exceptions... postponement at Penicuik v Tranent would try again on Tuesday; and Brechin v Vale of Leithen, Broomhill v Glasgow Uni, Caledonian Braves v University of Stirling and East Stirlingshire v Fort William would Wednesday. Replay of Tranent v Penicuk will be Tuesday; and University of Stirling v Caledonian Braves be Wednesday.

Fort William has their replay down for Claggan Park: they'll likely be thumped by 'Shire but if not that could be interesting given they're playing all Highland League games away from home due to pitch.

Both clubs were offered £1.5k

Neither clubs wanted to play on the Monday.

Both suggested they were happy to play Friday night but that was never an option.

Presumably neither the BBC or the SFA decided to push this.  The rules say:

”The Scottish FA, in accordance with the Articles of Association, may enter into contracts with commercial sponsors and broadcasters and grant certain rights as the Scottish FA may in its discretion determine (“Scottish FA’s Obligations”) to such parties in relation to the Cup and the Competition.

The Scottish FA will intimate in writing annually to all clubs eligible to compete in the Competition, the terms of the Scottish FA’s Obligations, which apply to such clubs (the “Statement”). The Statement will constitute a definitive description of the Scottish FA’s Obligations.
All clubs participating in the Competition undertake to provide any rights, facilities and other services as may be necessary for the Scottish FA to perform the Scottish FA’s Obligations.

Without prejudice to the terms of the Articles of Association, the Judicial Panel Protocol and the Rules and any other rule and regulation of the Scottish FA any failure and/or refusal by a club to comply with any of the terms of the Statement may result in the matter being referred to the Compliance Officer (as defined in the Judicial Panel Protocol) for investigation and possible sanction in accordance with the Judicial Panel Protocol.”

Reads to me that the BBC could have insisted.

I wrote a blog back in 2012 (when the fate of Rangers wasn't yet known) where I explained my take on all of this from a football statistician's point of view. Basically, in the absence of any actual rules around this, for me it boils down to two things, continuity of membership and will of the supporters. I think you need to have both of these things in order to be considered the same club - one isn't enough.

https://splstats.wordpress.com/2012/06/24/liquidation-and-relocation-in-scottish-football-and-how-to-deal-with-the-history/

For me, Rangers meet both criteria, since they retained their SFA membership and the supporters still think it's the same club. Therefore I feel I have to include them as being the same club as pre-2012.

Clydebank have the will of the support, but not the membership. Obviously there have been four Clydebank FCs, all of whom roughly represent the same town and the same people. However, the Clydebank which departed in 2002 were essentially taken over by Airdrie. At that point, for me, they cannot be the same club, even if the supporters treat them as such. Clearly Airdrie didn't want the history of the old Clydebank either, so the club essentially ceases to exist. Similarly, the new Airdrie cannot inherit the history of the old Airdrie because the old Airdrie went out of business.

The same is true of Meadowbank Thistle becoming Livingston - they inherited the membership but made no claim on the history of the club, so as far as I see it Meadowbank died in 1995 and Livingston were founded in the same year.

Fortunately I won't have to go into this again on the SFA stuff, since Clydebank will be in the Scottish Cup every year going forward and I can just refer to results from this season onwards.

Obviously the whole thing is a personal take and you can see it how you wish but I agree with everything you said up to the above. Rangers are patently the same club no matter what the mischief makers would like. There was a gap with Clydebank and the existing legal entity became something else. It's a different club for me, like Gretna, and indeed Airdrie.

I don't agree with Livingston / Meadowbank though. It's the same club, it retained the same directors and players when it relocated, even some fans, though the majority deserted them. There was a name change of course but fundamentally it wasn't any different to Clyde moving from Glasgow to Cumbernauld. I presume you don't consider them a different club?

The facts say otherwise.

The entity that was Rangers FC Ltd. Incorporated in 1899, liquidated (or at least commenced liquidation) in 2012.

This whole fanciful idea of holding companies etc. is simply a case of a posteriori justification.

Of course, if Sevco 5088/Sevco Scotland/The Rangers FC [2012] did go under now, they would have a get out as they would simply transfer all the debt onto Rangers International plc, which actually is the holding company.

Regarding the SFA membership - was that transferred over at any point? Was it one of the items bought by Charlie Green? I can't remember. And did the same thing not happen to Meadowbank/Livingston?

The same thing happens to clubs from time to time if they change the legal vehicle they operate under. Annan Athletic incorporated a year ago. Brechin City did so in the summer. Are people dancing up and down claiming they aren't the same club?

They didn't go bust first but the legality of membership transfer is the same.
