Conference A bids farewell to Edinburgh South who flit across to Conference B. Leith were red hot last season with a 100% record when play got suspended. Haddington were in close pursuit alongside various Edinburgh and Fife clubs. Several contenders had made a disappointing start; while only Tweedmouth failed to collect any points.

Clubs play 2 times for 28 games. With league games being front-loaded in case of future public health difficulties halfway should be reached by Bonfire Night and 2/3rd by Christmas. Champion promoted to Premier; whilst runner-up would enter a playoff if there is a net loss of 1 club to LL. Meanwhile everyone's wider target is top 7 to avoid dropping into new Second Division; whilst best 8th could also stay up.

Action gets underway on Saturday 17th July then concludes on Saturday 28th May.

Football at this level ended on Saturday 14th March 2020 with the cancellation of games including Ormiston v St Andrews... restarted abortively on Saturday 10th October 2020 (after new clubs were added and then conferences remixed) with Craigroyston v Tweedmouth, Dalkeith v Edinburgh Utd, Haddington v Dunipace, Kennoway v Arniston, Leith v Coldstream, Rosyth v Kirkcaldy and St Andrews v Ormiston (plus Thornton v Edinburgh South)... and restarts again this Saturday 17th July - hopefully for good this time - with the reverse equivalents; except we bid farewell to Edinburgh South who have decamped to Conference B.

Saturday 17th July 2021
Arniston Rangers v Kennoway Star Hearts
Coldstream v Leith Athletic
Craigroyston v Tweedmouth Rangers
Dunipace v Haddington Athletic
Edinburgh United v Dalkeith Thistle
Kirkcaldy & Dysart v Rosyth
Ormiston v St Andrews United

Top billing on Saturday probably goes to Dunipace v Haddington though it like most games pits a top-half side from last season against a bottom-half. Clubs who made a poorer start last time around such as Coldstream, Dunipace, Dalkeith and St Andrews will no doubt be hoping to lay down an 'early marker'.

Craigroyston v Tweedmouth looks particularly intriguing... hosts having surprised many by their good start last campaign; visitors hoping to shape off their perennial underdog status.

New management, new players, same old Arniston. It's going to be a long season for them.

The previous management team seemed to be building something. New squad announced in a blaze of publicity but when you’ve never heard of any of them you know what’s coming next.

The same issues seem to remain, Indiscipline from the management translate to indiscipline on the field. I had to laugh though at their reaction when denied a "stonewall" penalty, clearly the player had been taking diving lessons during the summer from Raheem Sterling. On another occasion their number 9 was looking to pass the ball to number 7, number 7 wasn't even trying to get into space for a pass and number 9 took the huff and just kicked the ball out for a throw-in.

I’ve been watching with interest.  It’s a lot of years now since Arniston put a decent team together - are there just too many clubs in Midlothian? 🤔. Whitehill are in a similar boat….  Dalkeith not the team they once were, albeit things looking up a little there …

Dalkeith won with 9 men - dreadful 2nd half from the Pace.

It was 1-1 when they went down to 10, and they were then the better team for 10 minutes or so, and then they went down to 9 men.

Ball over the top caught out the defence and it was 2-1, Pace had a couple of chances but even with 9 Thistle still held on and mainly kept Pace out of their box and away from the goals.

I’d like to issue a public apology to Ormiston.

After their defeat to the Saints last Saturday I said that Ormiston were a bottom three side. It looks like I was totally wrong. Two excellent away wins this week.

I was already going to put Ormiston and Dalkeith down as results of the day but if Dalkeith did it with 9 men then that makes their win all the more remarkable.

As for us well we led at halftime but despite getting into some good attacking positions a lack of quality in the last third cost us. I would say that Craigroyston were no great shakes but Ormiston have shown I’m not a very good judge😒

An entertaining game at midge central, St Mark's Park;

Craigroyston 3 Rosyth 5.

Rosyth were two goals in front at half time and playing well. Craigie came out looking more determined in the second half, squeezed a shot past the Rosyth keeper and then had an unmarked header to make it 2-2. Rosyth came back though and the final score finished 5-3 with ex Edinburgh City man Regan Lumsden grabbing a hat-trick for the visitors.

Not a bad crowd for a Tuesday night either.

Craigie also do Slush Puppies...

Decent game at Paties Road. Edinburgh Utd 1 Kennoway Star Hearts 1. KSH took the lead with 20 mins left when a free kick by Lee Bryce seemed to deflect off the wall. Captain Sean Guiney rescued a point for Utd with 5 mins to go with a header from a James Flynn free kick.
