Preston Athletic 1-2 Edinburgh South

Wednesday 18th August 2021
Burntisland Shipyard 1-1 Luncarty
Hawick RAU 1-4 Heriot-Watt University
Kinnoull 1-2 Glenrothes

Burntisland seem to be coming into a great game currently and in holding Luncarty to 1-1 while hanselling their floodlights, coupled with shock defeat for Preston at home to Edinburgh South, moved upto 2nd with the Perthshire men going top. Glenrothes also continued rising through the field. Amazingly all top 5 are on 13pts.

Easthouses Lily v Newburgh
Glenrothes v Stirling University EOS
Hawick RAU v Lochgelly Albert
Lochore Welfare v Kinnoull
Luncarty v Heriot-Watt University

Full card tomorrow and 'Match of the Day' is in Fife where Burntisland host Preston. Luncarty v Heriot-Watt Uni also an attractive fixture at the top end of the table. With just 3pts to separate the top 9 after 6/7 games, this must be about the most competitive and exciting divisions anywhere currently.

Took in Oakley v Edinburgh South today.

Had expected a fairly even match but ES were fortunate to only be the four down at half time. Second half was more even I suppose.

Was disappointed in the conduct of some of the players and the ES bench in particular, although wasn't helped by some very weak refereeing. I'm convinced the ref tried to send an ES coach or manager off (someone on the bench called him a cheating b*****d!!) and they simply refused to move. Ref seemed to then think better of it and just got play back under way. This kind of thing continued throughout with the referee never really having a grip on proceedings. A thankless task but he'd have got on better if he was a bit stronger.

An entertaining match all the same

Frustrating night from an Oakley perspective.Should have been more than 1 up at the break and ultimately paid the price for sitting too deep in the 2nd half.In what was a tough match, the referee flashed the yellow card Christ knows how many times, many for barely fouls and when the red needed to come out he bottled it.Couple of the 20's played well for Oakley and hopefully we'll see a bit more of them.Stuart Love scored his obligatory brilliant goal to enhance his reputation as one of the best finishers in the league but fair play to Easthouses who will feel they deserved the draw.

The league is shaping up to be as tight as a Fifer the day before giro day, it's definitely gonna be exciting right up to the end.

Attendance was around the 50 mark at a guess.

Glenrothes not happy about fixtures. Suppose that's one of the problems with replays in the Scottish Cup, cancelling other games in the league.

To rub it in they are away to Edinburgh South in November - on a Sunday! Hopefully the morning groundhop will be worth it.

The club are unhappy to announce that this weekends rearranged game against Edinburgh South has been cancelled! This game was arranged as Burntisland had earned a replay in the cup and Edinburgh had a free week! We are disappointed as we now have a free week with nothing lined up for the team or our venue that heavily relies on home games. We now do not have a home game until the end of September and after that our next home game is the end of October.

We have tried to discuss the matter but the game remains postponed.

Co-Managers added: “Kev and I are extremely disappointed at this decision by the league committee. Already we are playing catch up on games with the teams roundabout us. The fixtures have not been kind to us, we have both 11am, 5pm Kos and we are also been asked to play on a Sundays. When we all signed up to this league we all got reminded that clubs shouldn’t take for granted that they have a free week and fixtures may change, then for a team that’s just in the league 5 minutes to be granted not to play on a Saturday after a fixture been made is ridiculous. We have had 4 away games in 6 over 4 weeks and now with the postponement of this Saturdays game we now have to wait another 3 week for another home game. Times have been difficult enough getting revenue in and decisions like this don’t help. We personally think the league should’ve been stronger on this instead of letting teams dictate when they want to play or not. We can also only apologise to the hospitality and sponsors that were coming to our game on Saturday.”

Criticising the League board on Social media wont help their cause., however disappointed they are. Daft irrelevant comment about the length of time South have been in the league....will that not be the same 5 mins that Glenrothes have been in it.

I was at the game too and I agree with what you said. Oakley should have been more than 1 up at HT and then let it slip. The referee lost control, first too many yellows as you said, but how he didn't give any reds in the incidents late on still baffles me.

Quick head count got me to 55.
