Merkie84
Not sure if this is good or bad to be fair. It does confirm my suspicion that the guardians of the game, particularly UEFA, don’t actually have a clue what is good or bad about football and seem to always need to make changes for the sake of it. I doubt they could identify what things about football don’t need changed and should just be left alone.
Mark Connolly
Have the shootout before the first leg. That way if it's level near the end of the 2nd, one of the teams has to go balls out.

Score more than your opponents, simple.
Lurkst
Can't be bothered trawling through the records but IIRC in recent decades Scottish clubs have had a dreadful record of going out on away goals, as opposed to winning ties under the rule.
Guest TheJTS98
Away goals just seems such an arbitrary way to do it. Why not goals from outside the box? Why not headed goals? Why not goals after a move involving six or more players? Why not discount goals from set plays? Why not favour goals from set plays? Why not goals in the first 20 minutes? Why not goals in the last 20? Why not reward overhead kicks? Why not decide it on corners, or even AWAY corners? Why not reward the team with the fewest fouls over two games? Why not the lowest card count? Why not possession of the ball in the other team's half? Why not touches of the ball in the opposition's final third? None of these would be less valid than deciding that one team has won a drawn tie just because they scored two goals away from home rather than one. What if one of those goals was a soft penalty, or should have been disallowed for offside or handball? Or totally against the run of play in a game where they got slaughtered? None of these contortions are necessary when we can simply have a penalty shoot-out after 180 minutes. Removes the questions of extra home advantage/ extra away goals time, and results in a tie won simply by the team that scored the most goals. Football is a good sport. It doesn't need a silly rule like away goals to distort perfectly good games. Edited June 29, 2021 by TheJTS98
