Never heard of him either. Is he Scottish, or qualified but born in England? If the later I wouldn't hold high hopes for retaining him in our system once he goes to City - he'll be off to play for England.

But don't think it probably that accurate.

So would be in a very good position to make an assessment. Im getting excited, I'm throwing a street party for Emilio Lawrence this wkend!!

It's only harsh if you can point to a list of youngsters making it at Man City? If you consider each age group has up to 25 players, then 99% is probably not much of an exaggeration of 'failure'. Youngsters at Chelsea, Man United, Man City, Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal etc. are few and far between. Man City are probably the side with the fewest academy graduates becoming established. Most who achieve anything at these clubs do so elsewhere.

The chances of him making it at the top level are a lot higher than 1%.

The majority of youth players at these clubs go out of football, or to the lower leagues. Given this forum is about the national team, we would presumably be focused on players who may play for the national side. Chances are, any given player in the Man City youth team, all things being equal, is far more likely to end up at Carlisle than they are Man City, or any other Premier League side.

If you're being poached by the best team in Europe from another big premiership club aged 16, you're at the elite level for your age. You're one of the best players in your position at your age in Europe. That's why Man City want you in the first place. It's completely natural for fans to be excited about good young players. This is clearly a very good young player. Not all good young players become good senior players but a lot of them do. He will get the best footballing apprenticeship a player can get, so right now until something changes his chances of fulfilling his potential ate as good as they could be.

Well he may play for the national side whos to say he won't? Each to there own but I'm always glad an interested to hear of young Scottish players doing well and getting big moves. The more we have the greater chance of some going on to be top players.
Loominous
In my opinion, 16 years old is too early to get excited about a football player regardless of their circumstances.

Of the 16 players (who are now around 22) here's where they were last season... Top flight players: (3x England, 2x Germany, 1x Italy, 1x Switzerland, 1x Turkey, 1x Polish) Lower league: (2x English 2nd tier, 1x English 3rd tier, 2x English 4th tier) Non-league: (1x English 5th tier) Internationals: (2x English, 1x Spanish, 1x German, 1x Welsh, 1x Kosovan) No longer playing professionally: 1 The majority of players in that team would have made a Scotland squad by now.

I don't think that's a fair representation. The only players from the 2017 youth cup team that I think would have definitely been called up to a Scotland squad are Phil Foden, Brahim Diaz, Lukas Nmecha, Jadon Sancho and Jeremie Frimpong. The rest are at best debateable - if anything the majority of the players in that specific team are dropping down the football pyramid. I'd be interested to know which players you think would have made a Scotland squad from that team. Edited July 12, 2022 by 2426255
AsimButtHitsASix
Muric, Diaz, Nmecha, Foden, Sancho and Frimpong would all have absolutely been capped by now if they were Scottish. Duhaney would almost certainly have been given a call up at right back. Davenport and Dele-Bashiru have had enough full seasons in the English Championship in midfield to suggest they would have been given a run out as well. Maybe not both, as it's a pretty strong area of the squad and Clarke doesn't really stray from his core group in there, but the question is whether they would make the squad. Not start ahead of Gilmour, Jack, etc. -
