Time to go Steve Clarke

Imagine being dense enough to think Japan is a smaller footballing nation than Scotland. They have 25x the population that we have.

Overall, player wise we are clearly better than Canada or Saudi Arabia (who are in much easier qualifying sections), and probably on a par with Japan. They probably have better depth (because they have 25x our population) but our best players are better than their best players. They don't have anyone comparable to Robertson, for example.

No doubt they are a better team than us though, and are usually far greater than the sum of their parts.

Can you quote one person saying Japan is a smaller footballing nation than Scotland?

Good result for Iran, but terrible for Steve Clarke who must now surely resign after that win?

Clarke lost to the team that lost to the team that lost to Iran. Worse than Ally MacLeod, who also refused to resign after shaming Scotland.

When will the SFA listen to the voices of right-thinking, hard-working Scotland fans and reappoint Jock Stein?

In terms of future managers, I seem to remember  Saudi Arabia manager Herve Renard being brought up by someone on here before. Hes certainly showed up well so far in this tournament, their about to play so this post could blow up in my face 💥

His career reads like he's a specialist in international management, hes won the African Cup of nations twice managing Zambia and the Ivory Coast.

Could he be persuaded to come back to Europe to manage us?

That video of his half time team talk against Argentina was amazing. Gave a good insight into his style, and how he can inspire a team.

Considering he's a proven international manager outside of Europe with actual silverware, currently raking it in from oil-rich employers who hand out luxury cars for winning games, I'm thinking he's probably not looking to move to a mediocre northern European country who've only just qualified for their first tournament in twenty-odd years.

But you'll say, "how do we know if we don't ask?", and someone else will say, "how do you know we haven't already asked?", "has he applied for the job before when it was advertised?", "is it true he's shagging Bruno Metsu's missus?", or "give Steve a chance with your new defensive system, FFS", and before we know it the second half's started and this is still the equivalent of Dryhorce asking why we haven't called up a Barcelona player whose Spanish granny once got pumped in Yoker.

Hes actually been quoted recently saying "id love to manage Scotland one day, thats what im aiming for" "play 6 at the back and get the fans super excited"

According to Google, Herve Renard earns £950k (tax free) in Saudi Arabia. And that's not counting unexpected rolls royce based bonuses. Steve Clarke earns £500k (£270k take home). And maybe some free Irn Bru?

They both have unspecified performance bonuses, but it's a good shout that Renards are much bigger.

So the only way he will ever be managing Scotland if his career takes a pretty drastic downwards turn, or we get a super rich idiot to fund him like Ireland did with Trappatoni.

Hard to imagine Scotland losing to Costa Rica at a World Cup.

I know a couple of young EPL fans who'd no idea that we'd lost to Costa Rica at a World Cup. One didn't even know his country had ever qualified before.

I'm not sure whether to envy them.

Aye I think international management is more suitable to an older candidate, someone who's had a career already. McLeish was still young and would have been unsatisfied with another campaign in a part time job.

When it comes to suitable candidates to replace Clark (hypothetically, at the moment) I want the SFA to go down the FAI route and get third party funding to pay for a top candidate like they did with Trappatoni.

Or at least fucking sell it as a prestigious job. And definitely not just give it to one of their pals.

That'll be the FAI straddled with debt due to having a allegedly fraudulent Chief Executive.
