Sure that i read that they gave soldiers  "speed" in the first world war to keep them awake

Amphetamine was discovered in 1887, however, they didn't know it's uses until after WW1.  I found this out only the other day watch The Great War on youtube.

I think it's true in the sense of "species", at least for some sorts of species.

The St Kilda wren, for example, is a subspecies of the "usual" wren.

I recall some stramash about the Scottish Crossbill losing its species status, about 20 years ago; but that seems to have been favourably resolved.

Was about to question that but it seems to be viewed as the only unique species as opposed to a subspecies.

I like the bit in that link where they effectively say that it's because they move differently and have different accents.  On that basis, I think I've encountered a fair few different endemic humanoid species across (mostly Central) Scotland.

In the NIFL Premiership, Ballymena United have not had a goalless league draw at home (The Ballymena Showgrounds), in over 8 years and 200 games.
The Cure frontman Robert Smith toured as lead guitarist with Siouxsie and The Banshees in 1979 and ‘guested’ with The Stranglers the following year.

Glen Campbell was the session guitarist on Frank Sinatra's 'Strangers in the Night'.

Away with you.  I've seen him on BBC Scotland talking about the latest political intrigue and nothing suggests he would even know what to do with a guitar.

John Steele was the sculptor for the Duke of Wellington statue in Princes Street- this is why he is the Iron Duke in bronze by Steele

He also did the statue of Scott in the Scott Monument and a statue of Alexander and Bucephalus in the City Chambers. An urban myth is that he wasn't paid and the the horse was supposedly given pig's ears as a result.

How dare you, it looks epic!

A popular schoolyard insult among some folks I know was "Mac and Me". i.e. if someone considered ugly was speaking the correct retort would be "Shut it, Mac and Me".
