Carlisle is south-east of Edinburgh.

Carlisle United were briefly top of Division 1 down south during the early 70s.

I worked alongside a guy who kept a copy of the league table in his wallet to show all & sundry...

Does Berwick changing hands 13 times beat that?

It was Richard, Duke of Gloucester who finally captured Berwick for the English in the 1480s

If you don't know who he is they dug him out of a Leicester car park a few years ago and Shakespeare wrote a long play about him (Tudor propaganda really).

By area, Lake Superior is the largest lake in the world and is larger in area than Scotland.
By volume, Lake Baikal contains more water than all the Great Lakes combined.
Is the Caspian Sea not the largest lake in the world?

Lake Baikal contains ~20% of the world's unfrozen freshwater.

Carlisle is south-east of Edinburgh.

From 1916 to 1973, the pubs in Carlisle were state owned.

Edinburgh is further west than Cardiff

Glasgow is slightly further west than Inverness.  Inverness is slightly further west than Plymouth.

The southern third of the Caspian Sea contains two-thirds of its water, the middle third contain one-third of the water, and the northern third is so shallow that it only holds 1% of the sea's water.

It's sister lake, the Aral Sea, was the world's 4th largest lake (>26k square miles) in the 1960s.

It's now insignificant (down to ~1300 square miles) since the Soviets played around with and screwed up the regional hydrology.

An ecological disaster story.

Why anyone would want to capture Berwick is beyond me.

The real truth is Scotland & England have spent 900 years trying to foist Berwick of on each other.  We won in the 1480s but they forced us to take Berwick Rangers.

Presumably even Russia didnt want it. Downtown Grozny seemed a more palatable option.

James Doohan (Scotty from Star Trek) had two fingers of his right hand shot off during the D-Day landings in World War 2. Whenever you see him on screen pushing a button, it's always with his left hand. He usually kept his right hand either behind his back or curled in a ball so nobody could see his missing fingers.
