So stamping on someone's ankle, especially when the ball is well away from the player in question, isn't a foul? If that happened in the middle of the park, you wouldn't see it as a foul there?

I dont think it was intentional.

Danny Murphy is an absolute idiot; it's not a wee bit of contact, the Polish player has stood right on his foot/ankle. It's a blatant penalty kick.

Not only doesn’t he think that it’s a foul, he’s giving it the pundits special “the ball’s away anyway” crap. The ball could be up the other end of the park, but it’s still a penalty.

What does that have to do with anything?  Fouls don’t have to be intentional.

If someone's in possession in the centre circle and you put a tackle in which catches them just after they play a pass and the ball is away then you haven't intentionally clattered them, but it's still a blatant foul for catching them late.

Anyone who doesn't think that's a penalty doesn't understand the rules of football.

I especially enjoyed Murphy legitimately trying to argue against the awarding of a penalty by observing that he'd "gone down after he touched him".

Now to compound matters, Murphy is saying that England have nothing to fear in Spain later in the competition. This is after watching England in their first two matches. He really is an arsehole.

I think we've finally found a worse co-commentator than Ally McCoist

In Murphy's day it was etiquette to hand someone a note stating you intended to foul them after which the fouled player would go to ground out of social obligation.

He’s right with that one.  Both teams will be back home.

He described Pedri as a young 18 year old a few minutes back.
