When's the Bo'ness fair? If it turns into a all Bo'ness final they should have it that weekend for a laugh

Gala? They'd have lost in SFs.

It's based on a local annual holiday for the miners of Bo'ness that long predates the children's fair, which was brought in because the miners' holiday had traditionally been used as an opportunity to get absolutely trollied.

The Bo'ness Fair takes place annually, generally at the end of June when the school term ends. The Fair as we know it came into being in 1897 but can trace its roots to the Mines Emancipation Act of 1779 which freed miners from the serfdom or virtual slavery under which they and their families lived. They took a holiday from work on a Friday and the Fair has been held on a Friday ever since. The earliest fairs turned into drunken parades...

It actually wasn't until 1799 that the miners were really freed from serfdom and my Bo'ness United supporting grandfather's take was always that things weren't hugely better in the 1800s because although they could theoretically get other jobs without getting prosecuted in practice it was still very difficult to do so if you came from a mining family.

Wow! For once Deanburn's answer was adequate...

Wednesday 30th March 2022
R5:
Bo'ness United 2-4 University of Stirling

Students deliver a fine win at Newtown Park, and deprive us the prospect of a Linlithgow-Bo'ness Utd derby SF plus intra-Bo'ness final in the process.

These academics are first into SF, with the remaining ties (including delayed Kinnoull v Bo'ness Athletic) due over next fortnight:

Saturday 2nd April 2022     R5     Gala Fairydean Rovers v Dundonald Bluebell

Saturday 9th April 2022     R4     Kinnoull v Bo'ness Athletic
Saturday 9th April 2022     R5     Linlithgow Rose v Hill of Beath Hawthorn

Wednesday 13th April 2022     R5     Haddington Athletic v Kinnoull/Bo'ness Athletic

Wednesday 6th April 2022
R5:
Gala Fairydean Rovers 2-0 Dundonald Bluebell

Tie having been off on Saturday, the visitors showed little effect of their long journey, starting the brighter and ending the stronger. However they were by then chasing a 2-goal deficit facilitated by poor defending. Hosts deserved win having been on top for middle hour of rain-drenched action.

Saturday 9th April 2022

Kinnoull v Bo'ness Athletic

Saturday 9th April 2022
R4:
Kinnoull 3-2 Bo'ness Athletic (aet, FT 2-2)
R5:
Linlithgow Rose 3-1 Hill of Beath Hawthorn (aet, FT 1-1)

Linlithgow came from behind to dispatch Hill of Beath after the extra 30mins of an apparently captivating contest. Rose will host University of Stirling in a couple of midweeks to duel for Final place.

Goodness only knows what was going on in Perth... Kinnoull twice led, were twice brought back level, then won with 3mins left in ET... against visitors who ended-up with 7 men 😯.

I've noticed a few Bo'ness Athletic games with red cards this season!

Kinnoull pull off another shock at 10-man Haddington.

Haddington player was sent off after about 5 minutes- I think it must have been for foul and abusive as no-one actually knew what it was for.

Haddington should probably be kicking themselves for losing, but hey, that's football.
