Ladbrokes was about £2-2.5m, so probably somewhere close to £3m a year? The new year old firm when people couldn't leave their house, no fans in stadiums or pubs and pre Celtic's January meltdown (when the league albeit it was already looking like a Rangers romp but could be argued it could still become competitive) they couldn't break the 1m barrier in the 10 in a row/Rangers 1st ever league win season. There will never be conditions like that again and they still couldn't breach the 1m barrier. For contrast on a quick google search on random tv figures last year Leicester v West Ham peaked at 830,000 viewers on BT and Sky had an Arsenal v Sheff Utd ranged from 750,000-1.1m. HibeeJibee Posted June 10, 2021 Share Posted June 10, 2021 (edited) It's either a cumulative figure - aggregating viewership from each match and therefore counting committed fans dozens of times - or else based on some massively loose 'definition': like if you buy a newspaper (there are articles about football games and some of those are SPFL); or watch the news (there are reports about football games and some of those are SPFL); etc. It's like that SFA review in 2018 which claimed 780,000 people in Scotland played football (and 89% of those were male i.e. between 1 in 3 and 1 in 4 men played football). Clearly absurd. It claimed 1 in 6 people in Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire played football. When you read the detail... nationwide they tallied 134,000 men & boys playing organised football... then estimated 660,000 playing "informally" in streets, parks, playgrounds etc... If it was assumed you kicked a ball in your back garden at least once in a year that presumably counted. It also claimed 1.8M adults in Scotland were football fans.
