When are you getting your balls out and doing the draw HJ?

The draw is on Thursday. Don't know if there will be a live stream of HJ's balls.

Should be many big ties as Lowland, East, South and West all fully mixed together. However some particularly interesting prospects could be Bo'ness, Cumbernauld or East Kilbride derbies; respective league leader clashes between Bonnyrigg, Penicuik and Auchinleck; or others division leaders like Haddington, Glenrothes, Syngenta, St Cuthbert, Cambuslang and Drumchapel.

Other big names include Civil Service, Spartans, Stirling Uni; Broxburn, Linlithgow, Tranent; Threave; Beith, Glenafton, Hurlford, Irvine Meadow and Pollok. Gretna 2008, Arthurlie, Clydebank and Vale of Leven carry romantic associations with "olden days" in Scottish League.

Jeanfield and Luncarty fly the flag for Perthshire... Dundonald and Lochore seek to maintain the reputation of Fife... Coldstream and Gala are the last representatives from Borders. Dunipace the holders exited in R2.

Beith v Rossvale
Newmains United v East Kilbride
Syngenta v Edinburgh United
Blantyre Victoria v Broxburn Athletic
Tranent v Lugar Boswell Thistle

Lesmahagow v Drumchapel United
Darvel/Gretna 2008 v Cambuslang Rangers
Glenrothes v Clydebank
Whitletts Victoria v Arthurlie
Kilbirnie Ladeside v Caledonian Braves
Pollok v Harthill Royal
Haddington Athletic v Spartans
Irvine Meadow v Penicuik Athletic
Bo’ness Athletic v Glenafton Athletic
Maybole v St Anthonys
Gala Fairydean Rovers v University of Stirling
Hurlford United v Blackburn United
Auchinleck Talbot v West Calder United
Petershill v Greenock
Sauchie v Preston Athletic
Finnart v Jeanfield Swifts
Lochore Welfare v Dundonald Bluebell
Linlithgow Rose v St Cuthbert Wanderers
Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic v Coldstream
Cumbernauld Colts v Tynecastle
Vale of Leven v Edinburgh University
Bo’ness United v East Kilbride Thistle
Largs Thistle v Troon
Ormiston v Thorniewood United
Cumbernauld United v Glasgow United

Bordering on a nightmare draw in EOS terms... with only 3 ties where somebody is guaranteed to progress. Linlithgow, Jeanfield and Tranent will also be strong favourites in their contests.

Blantyre v Broxburn, Hurlford v Blackburn and Irvine Meadow v Penicuik are all West Premier v East Premier contests... home advantage may count, albeit Broxburn will be favourites.

Bo'ness Athletic v Glenafton, Glenrothes v Clydebank and Haddington v Spartans pit clubs from First Division at home to sides 1 / 2 tiers above... while Auchinleck v West Calder, Bonnyrigg v Coldstream and Cumbernauld Colts v Tynecastle add the difficulty of an away tie to the higher-level opponent.

Luncarty v Renfrew looks especially hard to call. Ormiston v Thorniewood is actually a decent draw for them.

Tomorrow is among those marquee days of the season as R3 aka 'Last 64' of the South Challenge Cup beckons and it goes all-in... Thought it might be best to break these ties into categories, in what is a very challenging draw for East teams.

Friday 19th November 2021
Cumbernauld Colts v Tynecastle

Saturday 20th November 2021
Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic v Coldstream
Haddington Athletic v Spartans

East v Lowland: Haddington may be many people's tips to shock an outfit 2 tiers above. Tynecastle are capable of a result - if they can forget last week's calamity. Coldstream will surely have reached the end of the road at Bonnyrigg.

Friday 19th November 2021
Bo'ness Athletic v Glenafton Athletic (8pm)

Saturday 20th November 2021
Auchinleck Talbot v West Calder United
Blantyre Victoria v Broxburn Athletic (1:30pm)
Glenrothes v Clydebank (1:30pm)
Hurlford United v Blackburn United (1:30pm)
Irvine Meadow v Penicuik Athletic (1:30pm)
Jeanfield Swifts v Finnart
Luncarty v Renfrew (1:30pm)
Ormiston v Thorniewood United (1:30pm)
Tranent v Lugar Boswell Thistle

East v West: Irvine Meadow v Penicuik Athletic is tie of the round, and the visitors will travel with some optimism. Broxburn should have enough against a club 2nd-bottom of West Premier though an away trip makes it trickier, while Jeanfield and Tranent should dispose of Finnart and Lugar respectively. Luncarty v Renfrew is especially interesting as the clubs occupy identical positions in their First Divisions. Bo'ness Athletic are underdogs but capable of a result. Blackburn, Glenrothes, Ormiston and West Calder must be considered rank outsiders to progress although Blackburn and Glenrothes particularly might have shocks in them. (Note that although the hosts have floodlights Irvine Meadow v Penicuik is among the early kickoffs).

Saturday 20th November 2021
Linlithgow Rose v St Cuthbert Wanderers

East v South: hosts should have little trouble albeit their visitors are flying high in their own league.

Saturday 20th November 2021
Lochore Welfare v Dundonald Bluebell (1:30pm)
Sauchie v Preston Athletic
Syngenta v Edinburgh United (3pm)

Dundonald and Syngenta will be strong favourites in their all-East ties. Preston might be fancied to give Sauchie a fright.

Bo'ness Athletic 2-0 Glenafton Athletic
Cumbernauld Colts 4-3 Tynecastle (aet, FT 3-3)

That's an outstanding victory for Bo'ness Athletic - surely the finest in their short existence? - over a club that ranks among the great names in West football... embattled Tynecastle also gave it their all but ultimately succumbed to an extratime goal at Broadwood.

I was in Bo'ness tonight. Excellent performance by them. The victory was fully deserved, they played some very good football.

So was I, and I agree re their performance.  Its the first time I've seen then play and they look capable of upsetting most sides in the draw.

Their left winger could easily have scored 3 or 4 in the second half alone.

Shock of the day goes to Blantyre who eliminated Broxburn on penalties after a highscoring encounter. Having led a surprisingly big margin of defeat for Penicuik. Several of the underdogs put up great showings - Haddington, Blackburn aet, Ormiston - but went down narrowly as did Luncarty again aet. Preston appear to have put up a terrific fight at Sauchie.

For the first time there's no South representation in the Last 32 of the South Challenge Cup. However every other league, division (except West Fourth) and conference (except East First A + B) in the southerly pyramid is present.

Cup itself rests over midwinter with R4 not due until Saturday 5th February... outstanding R3 tie Darvel v Cambuslang Rangers might hopefully be caught-up before then.

R4 draw:

Lowland League (8)
Bo'ness United, Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic, Caledonian Braves, Civil Service Strollers, Cumbernauld Colts, East Kilbride, Spartans, University of Stirling

East of Scotland League (7)
Premier Division (5)     Dundonald Bluebell, Jeanfield Swifts, Linlithgow Rose, Sauchie, Tranent
First Division (2)     [X] Bo'ness Athletic, Syngenta

West of Scotland League (17)
Premier Division (9)     Auchinleck Talbot, Beith, Blantyre Victoria, Clydebank, Cumbernauld United, Hurlford United, Irvine Meadow, Pollok, Troon
First Division (7)     [A] Arthurlie, Maybole; [B ] Renfrew, Thorniewood United; [C] Drumchapel United, Petershill, Vale of Leven
tbc (1)     Darvel/Cambuslang Rangers
