Rutherglen Glencairn 2021-22

Recommended Posts

Meanwhile we stayed in 14th place in the league table last night despite not playing in the league, with 16 out of the 19 other teams now a game ahead of us.
Rob Roy went above us due to their win over Cumnock, but that was balanced out by Glenafton going below us on goal difference by losing to Clydebank.
We've still only played one team who are currently in the bottom half of the table, and our next three league matches are all against teams in the top 7, including the top two.

Never a easy game in this league eh peter. Do u think if glens stay up its a successful season?

Our Strathclyde Demolition Cup 1st Round tie at home to Finnart will be played on Saturday 21st August 2021. This means that our scheduled league match against Clydebank on 25th September (the originally planned date for the 1st round) can now go ahead without requiring to be rescheduled.

Just drawing breath now from what was a quite stunning comeback by our boys this afternoon.

At 4-1 down at half time and having hardly been out of our own half, I really feared the worst. But what a turnaround in the second half, whatever the gaffer said to them at half time he must have a degree in mind management. We looked a completely different team right from the kick off.

Any points we pick up against the title contenders are a bonus.

On now to Benburb away on Wednesday night, and then the visit of Auchinleck Talbot to Rutherglen next Saturday. By next Saturday night we will have played 8 matches, and 7 of them will have been against teams currently in the top 9 places in the league table.

Been hearing through the grapevine the big guns are sniffing about Harry Mitchell. On todays showing rightly so, the lads a talent.
They have been for a few years, but he's a loyal boy and has been one of the first players to sign up for us every summer. I don't mind clubs sniffing about our players, it means they're doing well for us.

100% agree mate and good to see local lads comitting to local teams. Some comeback today and maybe it will kick-start the season with what has been a tough opening round of games.

It should certainly give the squad a big confidence boost.

The hard games just keep coming though, Benburb have started the season really well and won 3-0 away to Glenafton today, so that'll be another big test for us.

Then it's the small matter of the visit of Auchinleck Talbot next Saturday. But that's the reason we want to be in this league.

A cracking 3 points for us last night away to a physically strong Benburb side.

We rode our luck a bit early in the game and were fortunate that Benburb missed a couple of real sitters, but just like last Saturday we got stronger in the second half and we took our chances when they came along.

Next up it's the small matter of a visit by Auchinleck Talbot.

Disappointing not to hold on for a draw against Auchinleck this afternoon, but it's a game of fine margins in the top league. We went so close to taking the lead in the 82nd minute with Jack McIlveen's hook volley, but a minute later we were a goal behind. Even after that we went close when Harry Mitchell's goal-bound shot was blocked by a Glens player.

But that's football and we move on to Rob Roy on Wednesday night. We've played 8 games so far, and 7 of them have been against teams currently occupying the top 8 places in the league table.

Thought yous were good today , snuffed out our attackers and were unlucky on a few occasions. Can’t see yous being in danger the way yous set up defensively

Yes, no team has blown us away as of yet, we do look to be stronger defensively than last season. Yes, we lost 4 goals to Kilwinning in the first half last week, but we fought back to draw and kept a second half clean sheet, so it was just a bad 45 minutes. I felt we were going to get a point or even nick a winner as we moved into the last ten minutes today and it nearly happened with McIlveen's effort, but fate decided it was going the other way.

Thanks for the kind comments.

The club has reluctantly agreed to release striker Liam Gormley, who has scored 37 goals in 83 appearances (42 starts + 41 substitute appearances) since joining the club in September 2017. Liam feels that the formation the team is currently using does not suit his style of play.

Everyone at the club wishes Liam all the best for the future and we thank him for his service. Liam's conduct at the club has been exemplary and we can assure whichever club he joins that they will be getting a proven goal scorer with a fine attitude.

He's a player from what highlights I've seen of him, didn't realise his GPG was that tho, will surely be sorely missed. You guys got a replacement in mind or call up one of the youths?
