This certainly consolidates Ashgars position in the club,

Unless it’s a total car crash surely? We’ve already had 2 managers walk away in the space of 12 months. If we end up binning Courts within the next year (and I think you’d get pretty short odds on that happening tbh) surely Ogren would start to question Asghar?

Not even a year ago since this story was written. How times change.

Wonder if Fat Tony was trying to entice McLaren into that 'head coach' role under himself back then.

Did he say in that interview that Steven Gerrard was an “applicable reference point”.

Comes across as a high street recruiter.

Not far wrong, he said he worked in recruitment for 15 years when asked about signing players, as if that is remotely relevant.

In all seriousness, i really don't know what to think.

Am I surprised at this move? Absolutely not.

Am I unhappy about it? Yes. To me it reeks of Yes Man / Puppet territory for the Sporting Director. But I can't really complain too much because he'll not he our manager this time next year as he'll either be punted or poached. Most likely punted. We'll be here again soon enough.

My concern is thats 2 managers who have not lasted in this regime, one jumped ship at the first opportunity (I was quite happy at the time tbh) and the other, who was head hunted and fit the mould allegedly, has now been dispatched with no real reason given, even after a comfortable (but hard to watch) season back in the top flight with a poor squad.

Csambles.

His interview 100% had a slideshow with words like "youth development progression" appearing on screen alongside fireworks. Reeks of one of the "buzzword" types who get jobs beyond what their career deserves because they're able to sell themselves.

Can fully envisage Ashgar sat at a swivel chair, cigar in mouth, clapping and chortling away with every new slide that appeared.

I'll give you the first one, Neilson left very quickly, with few if any bothered by his departure. I don't think Mellon was 'dispatched' though. The club stated both parties were in agreement about parting ways, and it wasn't a massive leap to suggest MM would reappear at Tranmere, which he did, one week later.

The Birkenhead position had been vacant for two weeks prior to Mellon leaving Tannadice, and it'd be naive to think there hadn't been contact made with MM during that fortnight. He'd probably been sounded out in advance of Keith Hill's sacking, I'm sure Tranmere staff would have been aware if his family had been unsettled in Scotland, and if Micky himself felt he and United weren't on the same page regarding club policy interpretation. His departure was mutual, and probably as staged as the Tam Courts interview with Tanner yesterday.

Yeah , I should have said “in the short term”. The buck now stops with Ashghar. His man, his plan. Huge amount of pressure and expectation on him to make this work, not just from the fans but from the owners.

I honestly can't see that at all.

Say he manages only 5 points from the opening 9 matches. I imagine we’d be stuck at the bottom of the table, and the owners would be flying in for crisis talks. Not unrealistic, as that performance is what got McNamara the sack.

Who knows? Hopefully he’ll mastermind a decent start which will settle all of our nerves.

I’m sure it has been raised before, but what is Ashgar’s pedigree?

An inexperienced football manager appointed by a guy who lacks the experience required to be appointing a football manager.

What experience is generally required when appointing football managers? In the past you probably had a collection of local businessmen on the boards of clubs, latterly more dominant individual businessmen or chief executives with a background in non-football industries. Quite rare for a football manager to be chosen and appointed by someone with any specialist knowledge of football. In that context a former football agent with actual training and qualifications in being a sporting director seems as qualified as anyone, more so than most.

Personally, I think Mellon was punted and it was just very good timing re Tranmere. If he didn't have a job to walk into he'd have been sacked and not "parted ways" with the club.

There were plenty rumours and murmurings of there being an issue between him and Asghar weeks before he "parted ways".

Anyway, we have a youth coach who's managed at banter level at the helm. Hopefully he gets on well with Asghar and we don't get absolutely humped week in week out.

Sometimes he uses 2 hands to be fair. You get them in your mouth quicker that way.

He can certainly put on a spread. I bet he supplies only the finest local ingredients rum glazed ham, homemade pickled onions and primula cheese paste but moulded into cubes with dry ice.  On a skewer that was tempered by a legendary master craftsman from a remote Japanese village. Passed down from generation to generation.

He's the man who has it all. Fame, fortune and an army of tangerine disciples behind him. Every game. Every day.

I'd like it to work out but jury's well and truly out. Next season will be make or break.
