The robbery of Callum Davidson of manager of the year by Steven Gerrard

Recommended Posts

Davidson is 100% the manager of the year. What he's achieved with a team the size of St Johnstone won't be matched in our lifetime again. It's a complete joke Gerrard got it over him.

Nonsense.

Undefeated, defensive records set over the course of an entire campaign, carrying Scottish football on our back in Europe.

Taking nothing away from Callum Davidson, outstanding achievement and it's good to see.

St Johnstone 2 titles, Rangers 1. Simples. Also the fact they’ve probs got a bottom 6 budget the achievement is on of the biggest in Scottish history never mind today.

Cup wins aren't as good as titles though.

Aye the achievement is good relativley speaking but Rangers have performed better over the course of a season, including topping our group in Europe. If Rangers had snuck the league by a game or two it would've probably went to Davidson.

Winning a league you're expected to challenge for, outspending just about everyone in the process. Doing it unbeaten is a good achievement.

Winning two major trophies you're not expected to get close to, with a budget much less than what, 7 teams or so?

Davidson should have won it, but shouldn't surprise anyone that Gerrard got it.

St Johnstone were probably 20-1 for each cup so a double is around 40-1, Rangers were just above evens for the league.

£1 on St Johnstone gets you £400 back, £1 on Rangers gets you £2.20. One is a monumental achievement the other one is routine and expected.

If Rangers got to the Europa League final to play Man Utd the Rangers fans would say it was a bigger achievement by their manager but they are not objective enough to see it when it is the other way round.

Are they not? Then why haven’t you won any in over 10 years? Rangers are expected to challenge on all fronts and operating on a higher budget than St Johnstone even when in the bottom tier.

St Johnstone to win a cup double in a single season is easily up there and tbh probably surpasses what Rangers have done imo

You are looking at this through a very very biased lens

Callum Davidson is clearly the manager of the year and we can all see that.

Surely the timing of the awards needs to be reviewed immediately and changed from next season.

Pretty sure the awards are organised early as the players have little interest in attending an event after the end of the season.

That's not to say they couldn't have done that this season though.

That's not the way odds work.

Why do they award if before the end of the season? Unless it’s only voted on league performance?

Historically it was because they had an awards night bash. If it was at the end of the season everybody would be off on holiday

Isn't it? Assuming St Johnstone were 20/1 for both cups, a £1 double at the start of the season would have got you £400 (£20 from the first cup then means you've got £20 on again at 20/1 = £400).*

And getting £2.20 back from £1 on Rangers winning the league would suggest they were 6/5. Which is "just above evens".

*Actually a bit off, obviously get the stake back so you end up with £440.
