Without visiting the hot-take factory, both deserve a degree of blame.  Hendry probably 60 to Marshall's 40. Marshall's decision to be that far up was silly, but in a lot of cases wouldn't be punished.  Hendry's probably wouldn't be either, but is a far stupider decision than Marshall's.

.

This is pretty much it, although given we know the Czech striker was planning to do something exactly like that due to Marshall's daft positioning I'd go more 50/50. But folk have got a hard on for Hendry so it's a stick to beat him with and we have to go through this dance. To be expected though, there's probably Czech lads going on about how Kalas should be dropped because he nearly scores an own goal

Tbf if Hendrys option is to pass to O'Donnell I can see why he took the shot, O'Donnell would've just turned around and played the ball back to him.

I'd be content enough with Hendry starting against England, O'Donnell needs to be dropped though.

Hendry being blamed isva ridiculous take when your keeper concedes from about 45 fucking yards. Yeah he was trying a worldy, but he'd scored against the Dutch and hit the bar so he felt confident enough to take it on. Weren't there like 3 Scotland players behind him? Marshall is totally at fault for that. The only excuse for conceding from that distance is it being 15 years ago and being a Juninho Pernambucano free kick which moves in about 3 directions. Ludicrous.

Marshall is so far forward because Hendry is so advanced. Its his role to cover the backline and act as sweeper.

Absolutely.

However, he is still too far forward, if he's ten yards further back he's still sweeping but he ain't being lobbed.

Found those quotes where I demand Kerr is playing and use xG yet?

If you've an issue with his positioning, direct it at the manager for his set up rather than the player. Its common as f**k when teams play 3-5-2 and encourage CBs high up the park.

Pish. He's over forty yards off his line. There's never a reason for that.

100% his fault.

Who said you'd done that?

Okay, found the quotes where anyone says any of that?

That'll be a no, then.

Mate you've got a very recognizable brand that people make fun of you for. Sometimes it's in the text and sometimes it's in the subtext. Don't be so precious about it. You've gotten to the stage where you're posting disingenuous freeze frames to prove that someone other than a goalkeeper is responsible for a goal from 49 yards. You're as well saying "if Hendry didn't intercept the ball in the first place they wouldn't have scored". You don't like him, we get it. I wouldn't be playing him either

Weird day all in. Atmosphere before the game was cracking and the crowd really got behind us today. Unforgivable that UEFA's ticketing policy left 2,100 tickets unsold. It was clear weeks ago that Czech fans weren't travelling and more could have been sold to the SSC/general public. Hugely disappointing.

Ultimately a number of our players just weren't good enough on the day. SOD was just out of his depth, Dykes similarly looked lost, McGinn and Armstrong were bullied by the Czech midfield, Hendry's decision making for the second goal was grim and Marshall caught too far out.

It was clear from about 10 minutes in that our only outball was Robertson and we needed more options (Adams, Fraser and Forrest namely) who would carry the ball and run at the Czechs. Clarke played lots of lovely ball players who had no threat at all and too often didn't look to get on the ball. This resulted in a total lack of bravery and far too long playing hoofball to Lyndon Dykes, who won very little.

The fact that the game was screaming out for Forrest and Fraser who didn't appear until well after the second goal is a sad indictment of how Clarke got today totally wrong.

Absolutely no doubt that Forrest, Fraser and Adams need to start on Friday. Moreover I would play Gilmour as he really couldn't be any worse than our midfielders today.

Yet despite all that criticism there were enough chances in there to win the match. They still got created and we missed far too many.

Ultimately a very disappointing day on the park. However the joy of being in a football stadium was huge. While the organisation wasn't quite as efficient as it could have been, the part of the ground I was in felt very safe.

I agree with the fundamental point about Marshall's positioning but also take a good look at Hanley's proximity when Schick gathers the rebound ball - it's not what is normally recognised as marking.

His goal against the Dutch was further forward (about 2 yards outside the box) and no Scotland players were ahead of him.

He chose the wrong option shooting today. Even if it didn't result in a goal for us, it was a daft turnover of possession.

To be fair RandomGuy managed to argue how shite John Souttar was in a game he didn't even play the other week so he'll have no problem arguing about how shite Hendry was in one he started.

He's a big loss. 100% he'd have been our first choice there long before now, playing next to his brother. Probably have about 50 caps between them by now if things went differently.

As it happens if they played first goal doesn't happen (Harry) and second goal doesn't happen (John) either. So we'd have got a draw.

Would hope to see Souttar sniffing around a squad by the end of this year.
