£450,000 seems an expensive way to get him banged up.

Not sure now, but back 20 years ago or so they would nobble some c**t with an ounce of hash, and say it was something fucking daft like 20£ a gramme. 500£ + for something that would have went for nearer 80£.

Can't imagine it's changed much since then.

I was sure it was a relative of Howard who was accused.  I might be misremembering also.

Edited to add - They weren't Howard's cousins but they were involved in drug dealing with a cousin of Howard.  https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2003/nov/09/uk.drugsandalcohol

I had only knew about it at as was working down there  a lot and everyone u met was a old friend /best mates ,second  cousin twice removed of John and had to let u knew about it ,and was shocked I hadn’t heard of him

The guys that deliver my stock are an asset to the British economy, all the nights they put in,I could get the same stock but delivered in daylight from a legit source but the price would be threw the roof .

That's just the reporting being inflated. There is no way 26% pure cocaine is being shifted at £50k a kilo. You'd be lucky to shift it for half of that.

Firebombs apparently becoming 'de rigueur' in Strathaven these days:

Meanwhile the assistant chief constable who heads Police Scotland's organised crime unit has been suspended following a "criminal allegation" (cue Stanley Baxter punchline):

Two men charged with the attempted murder of Dale Richardson, brother to currently imprisoned Mark, outside a Tesco in Gracemount.

Considering locking this thread tbh.

They don't mess about there if you don't return the trolly.

Quite. The Gracemount Tesco used to be a boozer called The Marmion where shotgun weilding psychos intent on blasting ex-boxers were always welcome.

There were two ex- Edinburgh City players in the Marmion on the night of the shooting.

Both were f*cking loonies it has to be said....

I wouldn’t claim to know much about running a prison but it seems like quite a funky approach to house warring gang members together. Surely that’s just making extra stress for guards, the courts, hospitals and so on?

I doubt there is the capacity in the Scottish Prison service to segregate people like that.  Prisons are pretty much full to capacity, in some cases they are above capacity.  There are probably dozens of prisoners aligned to each gang in the prison system with more added all the time, buffering between them isn't going to be possible.

There was a documentary about Shotts prison a few years back and one of the prisoners, who murdered his brother in law, was imprisoned with the guys nephew, leading to several attacks.  I also read an article yesterday about parents of a woman who took her own life in prison, they said that the prison officers told them "we can't stop her getting battered" when they went into prison to visit her.

I was just being a bit flippant; these incidents just scream “underfunding”. I’m sure those who work there have all the answers but none of the resources needed.

There must also be an element of jail as a second (or even first) home for some of the people mentioned in this thread.

I think there have been some attempts at prison segregation betweeen the Daniels and Lyons gangs. It’s difficult though - if you put a load of gangsters together you potentially create problems in that prison, it could give them too much power. Also, people might not have set loyalties, they might lie to staff about who they are ‘with’.
