tarapoa
Time to start this now our European spot is confirmed for the eighth season in a row. We will enter as a seeded club in the new Conference QR2 in late July. Seems if we progress, there is potential to be seeded in QR3 too, but we wouldn't be in the play-off round. Basically if we can manage our normal level of performance we should be papped out one round later than we normally are in the Europa, then have the joy of watching the likes of St Johnstone playing group stage football. Maybe Glass can find the formula to conquer the glass ceiling that McInnes couldn't, despite fairly credible performances compared to many Scots clubs. Still the earlier qualifiers are more fun - bring on somewhere in the green zone ! Edited May 10, 2021 by tarapoa
charger29
If Hibs win the SC then I think Aberdeen could (probably would) begin in the 3rd round of the conference. Also the same if you's somehow sneaked into 3rd place in the league, irrespective of who wins the SC. Depends on what happens in the EL final. From what I can see Aberdeen are fairly unlikely to be seeded for the 3rd round just now. The draw for the 3rd round takes place before the 2nd round has been played as well so no real chance of moving up with seeds losing either. Edit: I might have been a bit early saying it was unlikely for Aberdeen to be seeded in the 3rd round. A couple of the teams just above them moved out of the ECL positions in their league today. No chance of group stage football. Nothing has changed. Rinse and repeat.

Nothing has changed. Rinse and repeat. You're probably quite close to the truth but consistently getting into Europe just by itself can lead to a positive snowball effect sometimes. Aberdeen seem quite close to that point just now. Just reaching the 3rd round this year means they'll be pushing to be a seeded team in the 3rd rd next year (if they make it). They'll always be on the outside looking in with the PO round but give yourself plenty of chances in the final round and you never know.
O_Kahn
According to @scotlandscoeff1 on Twitter, should AFC get through QR2, we would just miss being seeded for QR3. Seeds being knocked out in QR2 would be of no help, as QR3 is drawn before QR2 is played. However, there are a couple of higher seeds who enter in QR1, so in the unlikely event they are eliminated in this round, it could help us move up. Teams to root against in QR1 are: Maribor , Fehérvár FC, Dundalk and Suduva. (there are a couple of other Euroopean leagues to finish, which could impact things a little bit) Edited May 24, 2021 by O_Kahn

I wonder if the likes of Tel Aviv will be seeded for QR4 as drawing them and beating them in QR3 is possible and would allow you to take a seeded place in the 4th round.
O_Kahn
Yes, QR4 drawn before QR3 is played so I presume a team would take the seeding of a higher ranked one if they eliminated them, like previous years.
O_Kahn
actually, according to AFCHereWeGo, a few results over the weekend made it impossible for us to be seeded.

Looking at Berts website as well it does look impossible when you add in the next seeds in 3rd round. https://kassiesa.net/uefa/seedecl2021.html

betting competition
I thought the new Europa Conference league was going to make it easier to qualify! ha ha
Melanius Mullarkey
So much for Celtgers wonderful European performances being "good for Scottish futba". Useless sectarian c***s.

Apart from the minor matter of getting five European qualifiers for the first time in 30 years or so - which has benefited........us.

It used to be 48 teams (12 groups of 4) in the group stage but now there are 32 (8 groups). So the other 16 who last year would have been in the Europa will now be in the Conference so for clubs like Aberdeen who struggled to get to the group stages before there is only another 16 groups spots available. When you consider that Galatasaray, Sporting Lisbon, Basel, Copenhagen, Wolfsburg, Malmo etc. couldn't qualify for the Europa groups last year then you'd assume clubs of this calibre will definitely get to the conference group stages this year. That doesn't leave much space for the Aberdeens and Hibs and the 3rd-5th placed sides from similar countries. I am not sure if some of the bigger nations have also been given more places???

No nations have been given more spaces and all get the same CL spots. It's just that the EL spots are now divided between two competitions.

Thistle Scotland Europe
Hope Aberdeen qualify for the group stages. It will be tough to get there. Hopefully the squad is built up before the European games start. Sometimes teams seem to build teams after the European games have been played. Aberdeen need to hit the ground running to do well.
