Clyde v East Fife

Recommended Posts

East Fife have done absolutely the right thing here, as have Clyde if the JRG did indeed say the fixture should be fulfilled - I highly doubt the club would put out a statement which such an egregious lie, but you never know. If that is the truth, then the only party to blame here is the JRG for what is, on the face of it, an absolutely mental decision.

Depends what the jrg was told. If they were told the full story then yes it is indeed an absolutely mental decision.

Any idea yet why the test result was so late?

The most plausible explanation would be that it was test results for Thursdays game that had a positive result as the results have to be submitted at least 48 hrs before that game. I would assume tonight’s results taken on Sunday all came back negative hence why everyone was stripped and ready to go because the game had been given the all clear.

In reality it shouldn't have got to this. The JRG should have categorically said no to this game going ahead but chose to force it on to save face over a split

When other teams have declared a positive test a day or so before a game, the game has been postponed but when it’s declared 20 mins before kick off, the SPFL think it’s ok for the game to be played ! East Fife should not have been asked to play the game - automatic postponement to safeguard everyone. Only in Scotland !
Do all the Clyde players involved this evening now have to self isolate ?

If Saturdays test result covers Tuesday then I'd be waiting till after tonight's game to check the results for Thursday.
If we've got the results for Thur then surely they would be required to check them straight away in case anyone has tested positive.

Clearly the JRG don't think they have to isolate or they wouldn't have given the ok for the game to go ahead.

No, only those who’d been close contacts of the positive case

Club Statement - Postponement of Tonight's Match Against Clyde

We can confirm that tonight’s SPFL League One match against Clyde at Broadwood was postponed.

The club were only made aware of a positive test for COVID-19 within the Clyde camp as the players were entering the field of play before kick-off. We understand the test was taken on Saturday with the result only confirmed around 20 minutes before kick-off.

After discussion between the SPFL and representatives of both clubs, we were informed that the match could go ahead but having consulted with the management and players, the Board of Directors fully back the decision not to proceed with the fixture.

Finally, we would like to pass on our best wishes for a speedy recovery to the player involved.

The club will be making no further comment until we have discussed the matter in detail with the SPFL.

That would mean the player must've been positive during Saturday's match with Peterhead then.

I would imagine the entire Clyde squad would now need to self isolate. The JRG are a fcuking joke if they gave the nod for the game to be played, if I was an EF player no chance in hell would I want to be playing and totally justified in their decision. I don’t have a clue where we go from here fulfilling remaining fixtures, a total fcuk up of a season.

How on earth did the test results for the game only come in 20 minutes before KO? If Doncaster, Maxwell et al have been made aware of that and still said to go ahead, that's absolutely laughable. I'm sure there's no malice in it but that Clyde statement is also ridiculous if this is the way circumstances have unfolded.

This isn't true at all. There have been positive tests throughout the season and in almost every case the game has been able to go ahead minus the positive player and any close contacts.

The only reason games have been postponed has been when a club has been unable to field a team due to having lots of players self-isolating.

In this specific case, I have sympathy with the East Fife players' decision, given the short notice of it all, but the decision being made by the JRG is in keeping with everything that has gone so far this season.

It'll surely be the test results for Thursday's game rather for tonight. In saying that we are shambles of a club so wouldn't be surprised if we have fucked up again.

Whole Clyde team will presumably now need to isolate?

JRG, who have failed the game so badly throughout this, now trying to a blind eye to a positive case when it suits as the logistical headache in postponing the game, is something they couldn't be arsed with.

Did Clyde train Sunday or Monday?  If the tests were taken post match on Saturday then they know all the Clyde players accept this one are fine unless there was contact through training since.  If covid protocols are in place then there is probably little chance for him to pass it on pre match  so the jrg might see the chance of it being passed on to anyone as highly unlikely and that's why they gave it the go ahead. Difficult to say without knowing when testing took place exactly.

Why would the full team need to isolate? That’s not happened in other circumstances this season. If anyone has been in close contact they’ll be contacted with t&t.
