Restart?

Recommended Posts

Listened to the Down the Divisions podcast, interesting to hear there was a proposal for regional conferences by Ardrossan - surprised it hasn't been mentioned on here.

But good to hear Kennie correctly make the case for remaining with the conferences, so as to get back to linear leagues ASAP.

I’ve never understood the regional argument for conferences. Players don’t come from one town or area anymore so the i don’t see the sense in it. You want to play against the best and challenge yourself. If you play the same teams week in week out it breeds apathy and does nothing to further the game imo.

Yes but,

Its highly likely there will be.  Current expectations is that all areas will move to level 2 on 17th may.  co-incidentally the 1st day contact training and matches are allowed.

Level 2 = 17th may

level 1 = 7th june

level 0 = 28th june

Not many semi pro teams that cant have full crowds with level 0 capacities!

Be positive.  Less doom and gloom please

That's Boris Johnson's approach. Look where it's got us ...

Pretty much exactly the same position as the Scottish govs more cautious approach.

Not interested in getting bogged down in politics, we are where we are.  And the Scottish governments guidelines expect to have crowds in grounds from the same days as we can train.

THus, lets look forward, not back and hope for a positive future.

yep have to agree. the situation should be far better than the start of last season with vaccines pretty much done and dusted for everyone who wants one.

just because there are no daft promises in place about crowds with 3 months to go before the season starts doesn't detract from the fact that we're heading in the right direction as a country.

It's a big ask for some folk to suck it up, be patient and not act like weans but that's probably the best way to deal with it.

Nobody can give guarantees when crowds are allowed and anyone who claims they can, be it a football official or politician, is lying, simple as that. That's because this pandemic can still take unexpected turns that aren't foreseen now.

However, vaccinations are going well and the effects start showing. So far all signs are that there can easily be fans in July based on the timetable & the level 1/0 rules. It's far more likely than not that there will be fans at the restart and only a very unexpected turn of events (like a new vaccine-resistant variant) can ruin that. Even though the latter can't be entirely ruled out, it's still unlikely. It's only right to plan for the restart as they are doing. Obviously it makes sense to think of a "worst case scenario". But the is at least ground for optimism.
