Marshall was directly responsible for the only goal that we conceded tonight. He hasn't even been starting for Derby recently. He was out with a back problem and then lost his place to Kelle Roos. Last three games he's been on the bench. Keepers hit aging curves too, and Marshall just turned 36. The evidence continues to mount that this probably isn't a dip in form, and is in fact an age-based decline.

What. We got into the position to put a decent ball into the box a fair few times on the left. He just thought our strikers were 15ft tall (again) or we were playing in blue.

Diamonds are Forever
Subbing Adams for Dykes was ridiculous. McGinn was poor and all that needed to happen was him to come off and Armstrong to go on. Or Dykes for McGinn. McLean was a pointless substitute and Dykes is not a goalscorer so can't be your only striker when chasing a game. Taking Fraser off with 5 minutes to go just when we needed some width more than ever was the icing on the cake. The starting formation, the subs and a lack of intensity all indicated a lack of understanding over how important a win was. The play-offs for the WC look a nightmare to qualify from with odds heavily stacked against you. Winning the group should be the only focus and that requires beating all the lower ranked teams. Israel are not a competitor to us in terms of qualifying therefore risking 1 point to gain 3 tonight was absolutely worth it. Instead with half an hour to go we seemed to revert to the 'don't lose' mindset we have under Clarke rather than 'must win'. I remain utterly unconvinced by Clarke, if just one of two penalty shout-outs had gone the other way I think the view of him amongst fans would be totally different. That is nowhere near good enough considering the quality of player now in the squad and also the standard of teams we've played. This campaign is over after 2 games. Austria and Denmark will beat Israel home and away The quality of teams includes the number 1 team in the world twice, 6 games against other teams that have qualified for the euros and Serbia away. Not sure how good you think we should be, but barring the continued issues with Israel I wouldn't say he's had results worse than I'd expect

Distant Doonhamer
Awful first half performance. Second half better after the formation and personnel change. I really John McGinn as a player but he was just awful tonight. He looked like he'd never seen a football before.

HalfCutNinja
Fuckin load of shite. Showed them far too much respect in the first half, sitting off them making them look a good side. When we play a team better than us the 5 at the back is fine. When we are better than them 4 at the back be aggressive. For 20 minutes we were and they looked terrible. Shaky and shite. We equalise then drop off again settle for a draw. And how fucking stupid does it look now not calling up Gauld or Gilmour. Desperate for a goal in a must-win game and we bring Kenny fucking MacLean on at attacking midfield. Aye guid een. Last ten minutes against Austria and last 25 tonight absolutely shitebagged it when we should have been throwing the kitchen sink at them.

ScottishZizou
We are going to a major tournament and I’m delighted but let’s not pretend that it’s because Clarke has been a roaring success. We’ve been very fortunate rather than actually being any good. Clarke is very much not lose first which is fine in some aspects but not beating Israel has already cost us as good as a playoff for the World Cup and has put us right up against it in this group. That draw is just so damaging to us. Very frustrating, I would have loved us to leave dykes and Adams on for just 15 minutes and really feel like the aggressor in a match rather than being so reactive. Just for the last 15 minutes

It'll come eventually - only Tom Brady can defy nature. But given that he's been by far and away the best keeper in Scotland this year, produced excellent displays in Europe and just made one of the best saves of his career a few weeks ago, it's pretty clear McGregor hasn't hit terminal decline yet.
