Personally speaking I found it regressive, especially in secondary school where our school colours were a very bright purple and gold, it encouraged finding what the bare minimum was to get away with, something I've carried into office work.  Wouldn't know whether that's an argument for it being stricter or being scraped though!

Our school colours were maroon and white..

We had to wear shorts up to Primary 7. Your legs were bloody freezing in winter.

Based on your teams, I'm going to go with Marr and Watson's, although I never had either of you down as posh c***s

Maybe we were the token scruffs, fodder for the rich kids...

My son's school wrote to parents advising that they expected parents to follow a dress code when visiting the school, no revealing tops or shorts etc.

I remember playing golf at Muirfield when I was about 15 and they wouldn’t let me into the clubhouse without putting a tie on in a Windsor knot. I stood looking gormless for about a minute before the jannie decided to sort it out for me. Still no idea.
Sadly, tie manufacturers these days skimp on the fabric making a sharp Windsor knot a rare treat.

The half-Windsor just isn't the same.

My English teacher got sent home to get changed by the Deputy Rector. Apparently "Kirkland High School is not a seedy nightclub".

Why was the Deputy Rector changing her?

Going shopping for a new school uniform towards the end of the Summer holidays at Clive Marks, has to be one of the most depressing memories from my childhood.

The reminder that your holidays are coming to an end and you've got a full school year of you.

Plus they were always massive as you'd "grow into them".
