A healthy financial service sector is an essential part of oiling the wheels of the productive parts of the economy. It is right that some of the surplus generated by production can be used to fund the machinery needed to allocate investments and borrowing efficiently. The UK financial service sector is not healthy. It is disfunctional and sclerotic. It doesn't exist to facilitate production. It exists to extract the surplus not only from the UK's production and international trade, but to profit from looted money from corrupt regimes and international tax evasion. Out of all the UK's business sectors and with a few exceptions, the UK's financial service sector is the most stitched up by the old school ties. They will profit. We will pay. So when the pandemic hit frontline workers went without. So they went to the massively over inflated market to buy more but, as if that wasn't bad enough, they ignored established suppliers in favour of their mates, selling at even greater prices than this higher market rate. And then we discover much of this doubly price inflated kit, that should have been stockpiled but wasn't, that should have been supplied by businesses with a track record, but was instead supplied by businesses entitles created the day before the contracts were awarded, didn't fucking work. We've been paying to store much of this unusable equipment, paying their tory pals to do it, and now we're paying more of their donors and pals to destroy it. Sunak and his cronies know they are going to get annihilated at the next GE so there is no incentive to discipline Raab any more that there is any incentive to intervene in the nurses strike or do anything else positive.
