1 when the lowland league first started there was no promotion! also no relegation! for 2 seasons i think. Also no named champion or club with a licence to come up was and still is the rule.(dont think that will happen now)

There was no promotion and relegation because the league wasn't full and there was election into the league instead. The intention was always to introduce this since the Lowland was the first step in the pyramid being built.

Fair point but it'll be an embarrassment all the same and undermine the concept of the pyramid. It's hard to take the LL seriously at the moment. I can certainly understand why current L2 clubs don't want to be dropped into this comedy turn of a division.

It'll be an embarrassment to the LL,to the Scottish football authorities &to the clubs that voted for this this year&last.the ones who've voted against this from day one will have nothing to be embarrassed about

Steve Kean was on Sportsound.

Seems like there might be a Reserve League after all.

In all honesty, the main reason was we feel if we can play games on a Tuesday evening or afternoon, some of those against English teams... the 1875 friendly competition against Brentford, Middlesbrough, QPR, Huddersfield, Blackburn, different types of games as well as playing in the reserve league and cup, then also the UEFA Youth League.

Most of the mistake has been deleted, but there's still screenshots. The Lowland League put out their opening weekend graphic fixtures. Which was picked up by the clubs and shared.

Nobody put too much thought into it being July 30th. Even though they've all been aware the season starts on the 23rd July.

Ian Maxwell: "The Scottish FA will oversee a discussion in parallel to propose and implement a long-term plan with the objectives of optimising the pyramid"

Thomas Brown: "Importantly we now look forward to working with the Scottish FA, the SPFL and our friends in the pyramid to create some new solutions to some existing challenges which will provide a bright future at all levels of our game."

Neil Doncaster: "The SPFL will commit our energies to a process that will explore options and, hopefully, allow us to move forward various aspects of our game for the benefit of our 42 member clubs and Scottish football as a whole."

With good reason. Its supposed to be a review of the pyramid. Not just pushing through the same agenda that's existed in the SPFL Boardroom since it near enough started.

SPFL3 has been tried & failed in the past.

The last time they tried to inflict B-Teams into the league it did not even get as far as a vote as clubs/fans made it clear they did not want it. Hopefully it will end up in the bin for once and for all.

😆 My goodness, what an attractive prospect!

Very funny that they still keep falling for this, as if the SPFL will ever negotiate revised relegation/reconstruction plans while colt teams remain in Tier 5.

As if SPFL 2 teams would ever negotiate reconstruction plans full stop.

SPFL2 would be quite happy to have another national league to fall into with decent financial support before dropping into regional football.

Every attempt at this though as involved the inclusion of colts.

You may have failed to notice a couple of full time kids teams in the pyramid squeezed out all but one team in the Lowland.

They ain't scared of "ambitious" clubs in the same way the Lowland are.

Its a dozen full time B teams hoovering up secondary sponsors. The player pool being diluted from fewer pro-youth releases and loan deals. All pushing part time teams further down in relative obscurity.

They hide behind the Colts excuse because it suits them, wasn’t it Iain McMenemy who wanted a total block on relegation for years because of Covid?

The whole reconstruction thing is a red herring IMO, those eight clubs in the LL voted in favour because they wanted to squeeze whatever they could out of the OF and to a lesser extent, Hearts - whether that’s a small increase of fans to their games or the whole shaking hands in the boardroom with the guy in the club tie. The likes of Cumbernauld Colts, OG Broomhill, Stirling Uni or Gretna are never going up the way in the league system anyway so they’re not bothered about promotion out of the LL.

I disagreed with the notion at the time, but it was part of a reconstruction proposal which would have seen teams added to the SPFL every year for three years, sadly including some colt sides. That sort of blows out of the water your suggestion that they would never vote for any sort of reconstruction.
