Nothing better than getting a gun shoved in yer face at port Harcourt airport as a welcome to Nigeria

Having an assault rifle type gun pointed in my face at a military checkpoint at the Jordan/Israel border, is the moment in my life I realised what fear really was.

Had a rifle pointed in my face from a soldier at a bank In Bhopal Central India due to having the temerity to want to exchange money.

Ah travel it broadens and the mind and strains the heart.

A taxi driver pranking me by playing the machine gun scene at the end of the Bonny and Clyde as we approached a British Army checkpoint on the bridge in Derry/Londonderry fair emptied my pants on my first visit to NI.

In a pub in Italy at the World Cup for me. One of those machine pistol type things. I could've been like Swiss Cheese if I hadn't drank up and left.

Walked across the desert from Arad to Masada in the Negev desert in Southern Israel. Was told the sunrise was something that shouldn't be missed from the remains of the fort, so I went at night in midsummer, the starlight was just enough to see by. A patrol of Israeli soldiers appeared out of nowhere about 3 hours in, all close up with guns pointed to my head. They quickly realised I wasn't a Palestinian with a rucksack full of explosives, a bit lost after sneaking over from Jordan, but a dumb hippy. They pointed out I could have just got a bus and climbed up from the Dead Sea side, but accepted my excuse that it wouldn't be the same, and escorted me the rest of the way. It's great being white sometimes.

This isn't like @Jacksgranda at all. Does anyone know if he is on any social media or know him irl?

He hasn't posted on Fitbanorth either. I sent him an email about a week ago to ask how he was, as he did to me when I went AWOL for a bit. No reply I'm afraid. Next step is probably sending a letter to his house which I think I've tracked down from his email address which is a company one, I think he was self employed. He had medical stuff going on, so it's possible he hasn't got access to the internet at the moment.

It’s clear your thoughts are coming from a good place, but I think I’d stay one step short of tracking down his home address and sending a letter as that could be incredibly creepy for a family member to open and read.

I don't really think so as we've shared quite a lot of private stuff on pm and email, and a letter isn't much different from an email imo. No idea what to say or how to address it though.

P.S. Someone has pm'd me with a better plan so I'm leaving it in their hands.

It isn’t like him at all, spends quite a bit of time on here, and openly posts when he hasn’t been feeling too well. Just hope the auld boy is just taking a wee break and is ok.

I'm not at sure that would be the case.

I'd take great comfort in knowing that a loved one is missed.

In the meantime wouldn't it be great if a period of silence turned out to be a dark tour de force
