It's perfectly possible to take an individual seriously and believe what they're telling you and still maintain a healthy, rational scepticism about what actually happened or about how common these occurrences are, generally. It's not a hard binary between 'they're all lying' / 'they're all telling the truth'.

19QOS19
No idea why you're being downvoted for this, you're pretty much spot on.I can't speak for those who downvoted his post but my guess would be due to him putting the moronic 'A goat spiked fae a guy wae a needle in a club!?"*_&!' in the same bracket as the other, genuinely heinous acts.

DiegoDiego
They’ve also sacked Gilfeather as a columnist. Hopefully whichever editor chose to print it has gone too. Surely the fault is mainly with them.
welshbairn
Bit half arsed giving Frank an opportunity to say he stands by what he wrote. Quote Mr Gilfeather stands by what he wrote and, as a result, he will no longer be writing for the Evening Express. https://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/fp/news/opinion/frank-gilfeather-column-an-apology-articleisfree/
Michael W
I've never understood firing a column writer because they write something you disagree with. Presumably everything that goes into that paper is reviewed at least once? If you have a problem with it, or even think it's going to create a public backlash that you don't really want to have to deal with, don't publish it. It should be pretty clear also that the columnist does not necessarily represent the paper's viewpoint and may diverge from it. Alternatively, don't even hire someone who might write a column like that. The article written is indeed awful, but are we really claiming no-one saw that before publication and decided it was fine to be published? Not having that. Someone else should be following him out the door. Edited October 23, 2021 by Michael W
williemillersmoustache
Papers want clicks and controversy drives clicks. Sometimes the backlash isn't worth the attention and then they bin the writer, apologise and claim these views don't represent and fail to meet the standards of the paper, which commissioned, edited and published these views.
