The Ongoing Breakdown of the United Kingdom (Or the Other Empty-Headed Natters Thread)

Baxter posted it elsewhere but felt it deserves to act as a springboard for its own thread.

The number of people saying they would definitely oppose Welsh independence is at its lowest ever number with 50% saying they would definitely oppose Welsh independence and around 25-33% saying they're in favour.

On top of this we have polls suggesting support for and against Irish unification to be hovering in the 40%s range with Brexit shoving the issue ever closer to the forefront of debate for the first time arguably since the Good Friday agreement especially since Sinn Fein continue to threaten the Republic with a possible government in the near future.

Furthermore, we have Gibraltar stirring up regular outrage articles in The Express as Brexit also shoves the issue of Gibraltar's borders with its surrounding neighbour Spain to the forefront of the rock's issues so maybe they'll end up buggering off for an easy life.

Finally, we have the formation of the Northumbrian Independence Party. Starting from humble beginnings with its formation by the intellectual Philip Proudfoot, they've amassed 22,000 followers and make their case, seemingly following from Alex Niven's New Model Island, for an independent Northern State encompassing 15 million current Englishmen with novel ideas around multiple parliaments in the big cities like Manchester and Newcastle as well as drafting a socialist constitution. They've already allegedly approached Labour mayoral candidates frozen out by the current leadership to stand as NIP representatives in the upcoming mayoral elections for Liverpool. More on them can be read here - https://www.redpepper.org.uk/the-case-for-northern-independence/

What do we think?

Are these flash in the pan outfits and movements doomed to remain tethered to the CDU?

Are they going to achieve independence and not be shitebags like we've been?

Has any P&Ber started their own microcosmic independence movement and fancies advertising it here whether it's the Milngavie Soviet or the Independent Free State of Larbert?

It doesn't take a particularly vivid imagination to see Wales following the same trajectory as Scotland does it.

Would say though that in the event of multiple coutnries gaining independence, I'd like to see the Common Travel Area being maintained across the British Isles. Passport-free travel between the countries should be a given.

None of the above will happen. Flash in the pan type stuff. People aren't that self destructive and people are extremely fickle.

However if it were all to go to shit the Borders should gain Independence from Indy Scotland and Indy Northern if they tried to Hoover us up, not going with the Welsh so might have to be Norway we look to.

It'd certainly boost Norway's World Rugby ranking.

Well forgive me for saying we've been here before with unrealistic optimistic Nationalists and undoubtedly we'll be here again for the next 5-10 years.

I empathise with why you don't give up but hopefully it doesn't become a barrier between other things.

It's only going one way, real question is not if...it's when!

I'd say by the year 2030 it will have happened, probably sooner... Anyways genuinely hope you live a lot longer than 2050emoji106.png

And what did you say in 2014?

Well see what state the world is in before I agree but thanks!

This completely ignores what's actually funny about this meme and just puts flags on it. It's a terrible meme and I'm disappointed you used it tbh

Im unaware of the original but I can see why you might not find it funny but meh, I find it funny, I know some people find it funny, I find it funny posting it here knowing this isn't exactly the target audience.

Always good these threads for enraging the Brit Nat, gammony, right wing racist flag humping queen lickers.

I'll grab some popcorn.

Oh christ what are you doing in this section of the forum, I didn't think you knew how to get out the sport section, christ i can barely imagine you being able to articulate a political thought.

During the last referendum campaign I genuinely thought initially it was a long shot, however during the final 2-3 wks my optimisation increased. Unfortunately not to be and I was bitterly disappointed on the 15th. Now I'm much more confident given our starting point and any future optimistic campaign. It will happen
