No worries mate.

@Frank Grimes you may have missed the chat me and @Curmudgeon had after I had apparently resigned after 4 moves (I had the same with a random), I emailed chess.com to ask about this but have more chance of seeing Dundee win the Cup than get a reply and am happy for the result to stand.

GordonEF defeats AH13STU by poisoning. Two costly defensive errors cost the away side points.

Turning into my Angus neighbours Brechin, which isn't very pleasant. Might need to release a few players in the transfer window.

Well played GordonEF

Cheers. Honestly felt like that might be the best chess I've played since starting the league. I wasn't planning for the Queen/Bishop battery all along but it was probably more a case of just solid moves opening up the opportunity and once I got it, it was very tricky to come back from.

Division C, Round 8: RBWatson beats invergowrie by checkmate.

In a demonstration of how flawed my analysis is, I thought I had the upper hand through most of the match despite being down on material. I'm very pleased to get the win against someone who had very nearly 50% of there moves rated as best move.

Anyhow, good game @invergowrie arab.

I think this might be missing a defeat of mine?

Division C Round 8, GordonS469 beats markf268 by resignation.

GG, was a bit of a wrestling match and one mistake was critical, when you thought a pawn was covering that bishop, not realising it was pinned to the king and allowing me to snaffle your bishop with my rook.

Again, I think I've played pretty well until the computer says no... I thought I was up in the early game, it says I was behind. Huh. I missed a mate in 2 near the end, glad that didn't come back to bite me.

On a couple of moves I don't understand the engine at all. On the first one I wanted my black bishop out before moving the d pawn up 1, but it's saying I should have moved that pawn up 2 - wouldn't he just have taken it with his e pawn, and then I'd have needed to get my knight out of harm's way? I don't understand that at all.

And the second one, it knocked about 4.5 points off for this. But it covered the vulnerable f pawn, got the rook covered by the bishop and shored up a messy flank. The move it recommends would have given the pawn away, no?

My score on puzzles is plummeting, is it possible to just get worse?

Yeah, was a good game - just that one mistake really in it. Tried my best to force a return of a piece to even it up but you defended it too well.

Took a while but I got it. White wins the bishop with a little skullduggery.

1. Re1 Bd3 2. Qh3+ and either the king moves out the way and the queen takes the bishop, or 2. ... Qd7 3. Qxd7 Kxd7 4. Rd1 and the bishop is pinned to the king and the rook gets to finish the separation of church and state next turn, no matter what black does.

The rook on d8 covers the bishop's escape square d3 so white loses his queen if he tries the same trick with the computer's preferred move.

Are you not replaying it?

No worries if you’re just taking the loss

Didn't appreciate the impact Nxf7 was to have although I did play a poor move following that.
