P&B Chess League - Season 8 coming soon….

Recommended Posts

Nearing the end of the League Season, just one outstanding fixture in each division

--

Division A P W D L Pts
Dearyme 11 9 2 0 29
Board_Stupid 12 8 2 2 26
Ziggy_the_Spider 12 8 1 3 25
AimHere 12 6 0 6 18
beef2711 11 4 1 6 13
Purplekangaroo89 12 1 2 9 5
invergowrie 12 1 0 11 3

The one outstanding result to come in is DearyMe versus beef2711.

--

Despite having more players, and having two more weeks worth of fixtures, Division B has had no player dropouts AND they've caught up with the other two divisions in terms of results fired in, making my admin a fair bit easier. Top tier sportsmanship from the mid tier chess division!

Division B P W D L Pts
Arabjoe 16 11 2 3 35
AH13STU 16 10 2 4 32
gkneil 15 10 0 5 30
pleslie999 16 8 3 5 27

PnBMathematics 16 6 1 9 19
N5_Spur 16 6 0 10 18
XCTR94 16 6 0 10 18
paakman01 15 3 0 12 9

(The one slight blot on Div B's record is that N5_Spur versus paakman01 was apparently played but not reported in the thread)
14 gkneil vs paakman01

--

Division C P W D L Pts
wastecoatwilly 9 8 1 0 25
The_kid1433 10 6 0 4 18

KenDeans 10 4 2 4 14
Strachanovski 9 2 1 6 7
RBWatson 10 2 0 8 6

There's one fixture left in Division C

8 Strachanovski vs wastecoatwilly

This one doesn't even seem to be in progress @Bigmouth Strikes Again @wastecoatwilly

--

In the cup, there are two quarter final results yet to come in:
Dearyme    vs Purplekangaroo89
PnBMathematics vs Strachanovski

--

Hopefully next week the leagues will be finalised

Apologies, I was too busy celebrating the victory, futile though it is/was.

Apologies, will send out the invite, when my cup tie is done. Can only cope with one game at a time.

Thank you.

Apologies, had 4 games on the go due to my mid-season break and was going to report them once all finished. Nearing the end in the final game, but for me at least it is just rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic!

Who’s getting relegated from Division B? 🫣

paakman01

As for the playoff, it's a good question. One standard chess tiebreaker is the Sonneborn-Berger score, which awards points based on the final league scores of the people the disputed players beat or drew with. By that metric (and using our 3/1/0 score rather than chess's 1/0.5/0 score), XCTR94 wins out (regardless of the final match result). I think Frank Grimes' original thread has us sifting through the chess.com gamelists of all the players to count the number of moves each game took, but since N5_Spur plays about a million games concurrently and has a correspondingly giant gamelist I don't fancy doing that drudgery unless I have to..

I mean I’m bias as I win out by that metric, I’m happy for it to be decided by the competition runners.

I'm always a fan of direct encounter. Failing that Sonneborn-berger is good enough.

For the case in question, they've won one each so it's a fallback to S-B or something else anyways.

I’m game for a match decider for the other relegation spot, adds a bit of spice to the game.

I'm not sure we should go down the route of having playoffs for the playoff spot!

Happy for a play-off for the play-off. Another game to the million concurrent ones makes no odds to me but also happy to take whatever comes - if it means I'm in a play-off against the group C play-off, then so be it.

Upon realising what Aim Here actually meant I’m not sure a play-off for the play-off spot really works [emoji28] I’m not against it but it’s up to Aim Here.

If you're willing to agree to sort it out between yourselves with another match, that's fine. But  if there's any dissent or disagreement with that, then I'll just go with Head-to-head results (which are equal) or, failing that, Sonneborn-Berger (where XCTR94 wins).

In the interest of speeding things up, I"ll play the play-off against the Division C opponent, given that @SweeperDee (XCTR94) has the better Sonneborn-Berger record.
