THE BETH HARMON SCOTTISH CUP FINAL

I'm live at pitchside for this massive occasion, where our 2 finalists have kicked off.

White has opened with pawns to c5 and e5, creating a pawn structure similar to the Maróczy Bind. This is usually seen in the Sicillian Defense after white's d pawn has been exchanged. This gives white a firm hold on the d5 square, prevents the optimal move of d5 and gives white some nice space in the centre. This may lead to a closed game, a typically edgy opening to a cup final, but with the unusal board setup, it's difficult to tell. Black has plenty options though, he may immediately strike back in the centre with pawns and break the bind, or delay, develop and open the position later. Another option is mounting a queenside attack.

It's early days here Clive, but we're all set for a cracking cup tie. Back to the studio.

RESIGN MCPAKE, etc.

Division B, R16, GordonEF beats el_scorgio in the promotion shootout. Headed for 0-0 until a late mistake from the home side - I'd already made one small positional error, but compounded it with an even bigger one which would have seen the house of cards come down fairly quickly, so against high quality opposition, the towel went straight in. Serves me right for not keeping an eye on it, in all honesty! GG.

League B round 16

GordonEF beats el_scorgio by resignation

Bit of an unusual game this one. Probably because there wasn't much pawn action and there were knights all over the place which makes it so difficult to see all the possible moves. Swung back and forth a bit. The analysis shows I built up a reasonable enough lead but then blundered it back to parity with a pretty pointless knight move. Swung back and forth a wee bit. el_scorgio resigned by accident, offered to replay up to that point but it had just come after a mistake and he felt he'd have gone on to lose. Not 100% sure myself as I didn't really have a clear strategy to checkmate but the lads are happy to pick up the win bonus.

That was one of the most difficult games I've played in terms of knowing what to do at times. I was wondering why and I reckoned it's because all four knights were on the board for so long. There were a few times I had no real idea what to do and no real idea what you were going to do.

Even before you got a draw with @DeeTillEhDeh , I felt I had to chuck it all in after a win and was prepared to take a couple of slightly risky punts (getting the queens off the board for example) to try and nip in front. When it didn't quite happen and I made the Kf1 error there was no real hope - haven't done any real analysis but I think you would have slowly bled me out. Only thing I maybe should have gone for was the castling move to try and develop the centre as I had no mate down the side, but the knights kept things awkward. As I said earlier I had a feeling my approach might bite back!

Two close games, enjoyed both.

This result confirms Elrohana as Division B champion

Congrats @DeeTillEhDeh

One wonders if the news will filter through to the players during the cup final

Just a plea to my fans - the best place you can support me and my players is from the comfort of your own home.

You must take collective responsibility to ensure we uphold the good name of this 2-month old institution.

Do I want 50,000 fans inside the stadium? 100 per cent yes.

The players would want nothing more than to hear the fans sing and support us in the ground and hear you behind every move, every check, and lose themselves in utter euphoria when the opposition king is mated

Sadly, however, you can’t be there with us. You can’t follow us to the stadium as champions - and the first time we can say we are champions.

That hurts me, it hurts my management team and it hurts my players.

Make no doubt about it, we want you there with us, but sadly, right now, you can’t be.

We know you are with us here in spirit and we know how much it meant to you when we secured the title.

We know all of you enjoyed it, but we must stay safe, and stay at home.

Congratulations DeeTillEhDeh. Thoroughly deserved.
I'm still beating myself up for not keeping the 100% record with that draw against you.

The lesson - don't make a move if your mind is occupied by something else.

And look at the whole board instead of just where the action is.

Round 16

Arabjoe v markf268

Division B, Round 16:

Arabjoe wins by the resignation of Markf268 (@true_rover).  I threw away a couple of early pawns then went after his Queen - somehow managed to turn the table and (just) ensure that he didn't get a pawn to my side of the board...

Really good game.

The boys have delivered when the relegation pressure is on - Hamiltonesque.

Too late. I'm currently being escorted by a Police Scotland phalanx from your house to City Square with a kerry oot and an armful of fireworks.

Congrats. Cream very much rising to the top.

If you want to cigar it up with a bongcloud opening in your next game, that'd be lovely

THE BETH HARMON SCOTTISH CUP FINAL

Move 7 here at Hampden park and just look at that e file !! The knight moves to e3, sitting nicely at the base of the midfield pawn enforcers and the middle of the park is congested. A tactical battle and we're still waiting on some goal mouth action. I may have heard some shouts from the dugout of 'get it wide' with all that space on the queenside.
