New clubs in the West of Scotland

Ask the club, it’s unfair of me to list applications and then they don’t get nominated to the AGM

At present only one club will be nominated for the AGM

Some are awaiting the first visit

Some require a second visit after ground improvements have been made and some have been paused.

Around end of May I’ll be doing the final visits so the league can announce it then.

But we do cover the whole of the West of Scotland and teams won’t be rejected on location or travel distance.

Wick Academy were happy to include the Tayside teams into the Highland setup which might include midweek games.

Refs travel from Glasgow to the South of Scotland games every week.

^^^^ porn for the speculation boys in this thread.

Pretty sure the HL have a rule about how far clubs can be expected to travel for a midweek game so there's very little chance of Wick Academy and Lochee United ever actually having to do that.

http://www.highlandfootballleague.com/history/item/constitution and rules.pdf

When required the Secretary will seek the Office-Bearers’ approval to arrange mid-week fixtures to be played on Wednesdays. No League games will be scheduled for mid-week if the Clubs are more than 110 miles apart unless the Clubs concerned are mutually agreeable.

Also think ratification by the clubs on the Midland League as a feeder is something that won't happen until the HL's AGM so Wick may not hold the opinion that is being ascribed to them. A similar rule for maximum midweek travel distance would be sensible in a WoS context.

There was mention of 11 applications a while ago.

Is there any more you can say about how many clubs have applied and how many expressions of interest there have been? Obviously, no club names needed.

13 applications in total

Potential, but maybe not imminent.

First, the HL have to decide how many members they want.  If Brora aren't promoted, they may want to see one promotion (with no relegation) to get to an even number. Even if Brora do go up, they may prefer 18 to 16 and so need two promotions..

Second, there may be no licensed promotion candidates for some time.

Imminent.

Also,, Golspie Sutherland and Banks O'Dee are both licensed.

These clubs are willing to travel that distance for every second fixture - never understand why clubs who have to do it once a season get worked up.

The same mentality that meant Ferranti Thistle were preferred to Inverness Thistle in 1974.

As a Jags fan as a kid, Thistle's rejection was very upsetting.

Plus I'm sure that it won't take too long for a decent number of Tayside clubs to be licensed. Some clubs are already putting hard work in with the hope of getting licensed in 2022.

According to the  "Non League Paper" a major restructuring of the English pyramid, is to be considered by the (English) Football Association, involving non league  league football, at steps 4-6, at its' AGM in June this year.  In brief, its proposals include :(i) one new division will be created at non-league Step 4, (ii) two new divisions at Step 5,  (iii) a reduction by one, in the number of divisions at Step 6 , and (iv) 110 existing non league clubs, will be 'promoted' to a higher Step, within the existing pyramid)  in Steps 4 to 6.

In addition, 30 additional clubs will be invited to join the pyramid at Steps 4-6, from local regional leagues, in order to fill vacancies caused by clubs  moving up the pyramid..

The onus is now on the SFA to approve three additional pyramid leagues: North Juniors, North Caledonian League, and the 'Midland' League,  at its' own 2021 AGM.  It is time for decisive action, and like England proposes, implement its' new structure, in time for 2021/22. .

Last piece of the English non Lge pyramid jigsaw hopefully, to cut down travelling ? When is the WOSFL  AGM, when we can finally see any new teams, grounds etc being announced. Fingers crossed that next season goes ahead ok for everyone.

5th June I think.

With the SoS deadline for applications being Friday 30th April I wonder if we will see any clubs which applied (and were rejected by the WoS) or showed an expression of interest in the WoS turning to the SoS for 2021/22?

The ground criteria seem to be more flexible in the SoS (maybe wrong about that).

Now that there is a WoS option in the pyramid surely you would imagine any new entrant to the SoS would have to have a connection/closeness to their general catchment, and they don't want to just become a WoS rejects league. Then again they do offer a possible route to the LL within 1 season.

What do we know about Finnart AFC, the amateur club from Bridgeton ?

Easterhouse FA would be a good addition.

Both clubs also mentioned in this article which I missed:
