The Dubai Select XI's U23s vs Hibernian

Recommended Posts

Drinky doesn't post in Celtic threads, wouldn't be seen dead he said last year and the year before and the year before. Says he doesn't want Celtic threads to be about Rangers so posts about Rangers getting picked on in a Celtic match thread..?

Then he reverts to type, hits the bottle and makes a c**t of it. Oooft....

Have to say I though he was older than this.

In other non bigot news.

You have to feel that's 2 points dropped for Hibs against our covid 11. Sheep v Hibs games coming up will be must watch stuff if it stays tight. 6th Feb at Easter Road.

Celtic and Kincy turning in the type of disastrous performance we have all become accustomed to I see.

Pleasing.

Just saw the highlights. That defending at Hibs goal. :lol::lol:

This team simply can't defend and that's why any talk of them winning every game and catching Rangers was always absolutely laughable even pre-NY OF.

The lengths fans will go to in order to believe is quite something. Its not a criticism either, but thinking that team and manager, who took them to the position they are in, is somehow capable of transforming into something unstoppable for a sustained period is utter fantasy.

Celtic have been on toast for quite a long time this season. The situation was probably irredeemable in November without a change in manager and the board chose to double down on an obviously shite appointment.

It's a pleasing symmetry the way Rangers and Celtic's attitudes to loyalty to obviously faulty people vs being quite cold and analytical about what they need to do have developed in opposite directions over the last few years.

I suspect that - as has been the case even pre Dubai - set plays will be what skelps them for the next couple of weeks.

While Doidge has been utter dugshite in the scoring front for weeks now, all he had to do was make a nuisance of himself to put the keeper off and cause a wee bit of chaos at our goal.

Sunday league stuff.

I dont think this will have gone unnoticed by the next couple of managers to face Celtic.

I said to a mate after their late win at St Johnstone just before the first OF that they just didn't look very good and thought they'd melt.

Did not predict how spectacular it would be, granted.

It's good to know Celtic could play their second string squad and still make the top six.

To be fair, there's a reasonable chance that the first string squad will make the top six as well.

Youse should be in Rangers position even if you played your 3rd string every week.

That was a frustrating night.

We started off really well in both halves, in the first for some reason we stopped playing after 20 minutes, in the 2nd I felt we really struggled when Newell went off, felt a goal was coming before that.

Frustrating cause it was totally there for the taking tonight however it was absolutely not a Celtic reserve team, 8 of the players starting played in the Scottish Cup Final, Shane Duffy will be on more per week than the remainder of our starting XI.

In the end a point was acceptable but no doubt Livi will pap them and put pressure on us, would be really surprised if they don’t finish above us in the end.

The problem is, that we have a solid base but so many players that just aren’t good enough. Hallberg, Wright, Stephen McGinn, Stevenson (apologies but he’s had his time), Gogic and the likes of Gray, McGregor etc are in that category too, I know we have a few players out but we’re relying on some of our weak players more than we should be.

Hopefully we get Irvine and Cadden in sooner rather than later, Stuart Findlay too please Ron the Con.

Is Shane Duffy the worst defender in SPL/Premiership history?  He must be up there.

have watched it back half a dozen times. "here should we closely mark their most dangerous player?" "na it's a set piece in the last minute of play he's done nothing all night why bother?"

It was certainly better than a 0-3 defeat, it's great to see the budget posts again when we're forced to play the colts.

Let's show how pish he is by "clearing" the ball right to his feet, 5 yards from goal.

He's probably better than Bevis Mugabi/Ricki Lamie. But he's also, allegedly, on £40k a week so if you balance it all out he cannae be far off.

Yes, we are definitely spending more on wages than Hibs, that seems entirely accurate.

It actually reminds me of the first half of Lennon's best season. Solid but ponderous, good forwards forwards covering up a lack of creativity. I think there's space for Gogic in the squad but wouldn't mind any of the others you mentioned being given a thank you but you're free to leave. Don't think we can really get rid of many or bring many in this window though.

I know these things are usually bollocks (as @craigkillie suggests) but that's some jump from Dundee Utd to Aberdeen.

Yeah that’s a fair point, I feel we’re okay at winning the ball back and even when we win it high up the park we’re good at creating chances but when we have the ball it seems like as you say we are ponderous and unimaginative in terms of getting the ball forward, also a lot of teams are wise to this and happy for us to pass the ball about our defence knowing we won’t create anything.

He’s made me look like an absolute fud with his turnaround cause I used to think he was dreadful and his political leanings really don’t help but Joe Newell is basically the only player that, when he has the ball deep, I feel we might do something, hopefully he’s not gonna be out for any period of time after he went off.
