Stupid Things Players and Managers Say

Recommended Posts

Gordon Strachan really seems to be living on another planet these days.

Quote

"The Premiership is a lot poorer without Hearts," Strachan told Football Pass UK. "It's like when Leeds United go back into the Premier League, it's a lot better. 'Leeds United are a big club, Hearts are a big club. And I know for a fact that managers, players and supporters all miss going to Tynecastle.

"There should be a way in the future to make sure these clubs never go out of the league. It's a bit radical, but it's worth it.

"If we want to improve our football we cannot deal with Rangers being out the top league for four years, Hibs being out and Hearts being out. We cannot afford to have these clubs out of the top league.

"It might be a bit like Monopoly but football will be much better if these clubs cannot be relegated. The whole benefit of players, managers, atmospheres, TV rights will be better if we have all our top clubs back in the league."

Silly Strachan- link

He also says Scotland's full time clubs should breakaway and establish an NFL style franchise system as it's "common sense".

Imagine with a quarter of the season left, Hearts are rock bottom of the league and above them St. Mirren, Ross County and Hamilton are scrapping it out. Not to avoid finishing bottom but to avoid finishing lowest of the diddy clubs as finishing 11th gets you relegated as long as the team in 12th are deemed too big to let them leave the league.

What a fucking stupid old scrote.

But but but....

He mentions that Dundee Derbies should also be preserved in the top tier....

This was discussed in the Dee topic, and the general consensus is that he should shut the f**k up and concentrate on training the youngsters. (Only the tall ones mind you)

Ok well if he wants to go down the NFL route then let’s bring in a salary cap to level the playing field.

Its sad to see someone as high profile as Strachan want to crush what little competition there is by concentrating on only the selected larger clubs.
We know pretty much every year who’s going to win the league, at least relegation is slightly more unpredictable.

im surprised he didn’t say the big 6 in Scotland should automatically enter the Scottish cup in the quarters along with 2 wild cards.

F***'s sake, man, don't give him ideas...

He has a point on the North American franchise model. Imagine a Scottish football where the extra ~20,000 tickets Rangers and Celtic sell for home games is distributed evenly to other clubs. Where the transfer fees brought in from outside Scotland get distributed evenly to other clubs. Sounds like a plan, I say go for it.

Anyone, wether a normal punter, journalist or ex-pro, that makes a statement with regards to clubs being in the wrong league, or insinuating that a league would be better if certain teams were in it, are absolute top shelf idiots. The full purpose of the league system is to allow teams to find their level, and teams that finish towards the bottom of a league can’t be surprised to find themselves in a lower league the next season. He makes mention of Leeds United, a club who spent years outside of the top flight in England. Never in that time did I hear anyone saying Leeds should be a top flight team, or the Premier League is worse off with them not in it. It seems to be very common in Scottish football that people strive for the 12 historically largest teams to compete in the top league, and if one of those bigger teams happens to find themselves in the second tier, there is no shortage of pundits telling us how much better it would be if they were back in the Premiership. Almost always neglecting the fact that they have found themselves in that position because they stunk out the league over a 38 game season.

Remember when he compared Adam Johnson being called names with others who receive racist abuse? An absolute idiot, who should be forcibly removed from the game.

I don’t think he’s appeared on Sky since those comments. How he’s got to his age, and earned the standing he has in the game, to come out with comments as idiotic as those, is mind boggling.

Other countries cheer on when a historically small club gets some success.  You don't see folk crying when Bournemouth or Chievo get promoted. It only seems to be an issue here for some bizarre reason.

When Leicester or Wolfsburg win the league it's applauded.

If Aberdeen won our league there would be a public inquiry and police investigation.

Strachan is a gimp. Let's not forget he somehow managed to oversee Scotland not qualifying for Euro 2016 when it was actually easier to qualify.  Half the fucking continent qualified. We were the only home nation (+ South Ireland) who stayed at home.

This included taking 4 points off the above mentioned South Ireland and still finishing about 5 points behind them in the group.

One of my favourite players growing up.  Now just a rent-a-quote yer da fudpiece.

Him and Mcghee were my favourites as a nipper. It's easier if you pretend that manager/pundit Strachan and manager McGhee are actually different people from the players with the same name.

On the subject of stupid things they say

"it's only three points"

"is that allowed?"

“Obviously I’d rather have gotten the Celtic job”
