East Fife v Airdrieonians

Recommended Posts

Well you lot will hate them when we're at home to Airdrie. The problem with the commentary on Falkirk tv is that we dominate every team at home in league 1. If we create all the chances and score lots of goals then obviously the commentators will talk about Falkirk constantly.

Not really, surely the fact that the level of bias of your commentary was actually derided on National TV should show that there is obviously a problem there!!!

Haha showing me a result from over a year ago, at a time where Falkirk were possibly at the lowest point in our history. We're just a tad better now

Mind beating a mid-table Falkirk side at Bayview in 1978. Good it was. I think Stranraer were top of the league at the time. Meadowbank Thistle defeated us two weeks later.

Well that turned out a lot easier than I could possibly have imagined. After listening to the through the turnstiles podcast before the game I was just about to lock myself in a dark room for 90 minutes. The guy with the beard said he had seen both teams recently and Airdrieonians would stretch East Fife all over the park and our midfield would be far too slow. He then went on to predict a 4 1 win to Airdrieonians. Now the guy might be an Airdrieonians fan but I think he should stick to his day job . He also said this would be the week the top 4 really stretch away from the chasing pack. Falkirk were the only winners in top 4 today and it’s now tighter than ever. Good to see Darren Young mixing things up and dropping some of the regular starters. Looked a bit like the formation we tried at Stark’s Park in the league cup game. However it remains to be seen if we can find a winning formula on the road we should find out next week with a trip to Peterhead.

The offside situation. My take on it was the linesman and ref gave offside but the ref put the ball down in Airdries half to recommence play? Why is that not incorrect?

Almost from the start I sensed that EF were more likely to play football and even then their back 4 looked untroubled. Wallace and Hamilton were keeping an attacking focus which let their midfield control much of the forward movement. Would need to see how Wallace got the space to send in that cross. I know the commentary team thought almost everything was brilliant but that's what I would hope our guys do. Our one good freekick and header summed up much of that game, but we were off the pace all day. The 2nd goal came from our poor throw in and Crighton's rushed thump, but Hamilton scored it well.  It was clear that Thomas was not getting any free runs since the ball was usually in orbit. Murray for not the first time tinkered again to no avail. Three subs on and again Carrick goes off -I might have been tempted to take off Crighton!
Overall EF deserved the win and it is typical of L1 games. I can't remember many wins at Methil, and some heavy defeats, so I should have known better in my prediction. On a rules point someone at Methil should point out to KD that the Ref was absolutely correct with that "offside in the other half" situation.  It was funny to hear them finally discuss "home bias" when EF went 2 up and they could relax.

I don't think you get the point of the discussion. It's simply not "talking about" Falkirk, it's the joy and patronising comments when they lead or score compared to when the opposition score. That's really how you can gauge a "professional sounding" commentary team, when they go behind.  I'm not for one minute suggesting Airdries are impartial at all, (certainly not as impartial as they sounded pre season) but the Falkirk boys are borderline embarassing.

By far the best performance of the season so far from us. The new shape had us looking a lot more solid. Hamilton and Wallace were phenomenal up front and the defence looked very comfortable, dealing with almost everything Airdrie chucked into our box.

Next three games (assuming we get the Clyde game played) are against the bottom 3 and it's a fantastic opportunity to get this season kick started and start pushing the top 4.

I’d actually go a bit further than borderline. Its cringeworthy at times.
On the other hand, it’s FALKIRK TV and the vast majority of watchers support the club.
I don’t believe they have to be impartial, but a bit more balanced at times wouldn’t go amiss....

Find it ironic when the East Fife commentary goes a bit mad when they get over the half way line.

I think you need to look up the definition of ‘ironic’.

Sounds like we played very well and adjusted the shape a little which was needed and with younger legs in midfield to do the defensive work should hopefully free up Agnew a bit more.

As for the commentary, I don’t get why people complain about partisan commentators. I’m all for it, the Falkirk duo are next level but are clearly Falkirk supporters.

I would need to watch it again: but the player coming back from being in an offside position, if he then touches it in the other half, then he becomes "actively offside" and the free kick is taken from where he touched it-so you can be "offside" in your own half. Sounds bizarre but so are a lot of the recent rule changes.

Do you also find traffic Jams when you're already late ironic as well?

Before page 3 ends I reckon!!!

As lockdown has continued Janny has expressed further opinions that I cannot get on board with, I fear I may have committed too early.

It’s a sad day when politics rends relationships apart isn’t it???

That is completely correct, saw Darren Young explaining that to Ian Murray at the time
