Cove v Mo, 5/12/20

Recommended Posts

Funny old game .. isn’t it? Thought we were as poor as I’ve seen us in ages in the first half .. stood off Cove and let them pass the ball around with ease. Gave away our regular goal from a set piece and generally looked way off the pace. Started much better in the second half without creating anything ... get a stonewaller and then Rusty scores a worldly. After that Cove ran out of ideas and other than a good Seagull save from a free kick we looked comfortable. Maybe things would’ve been different if Megginson had played but we’ll never know. McAllister is finished at this level .. this was pretty obvious during his last season with Peterhead and McIntosh has never been anything other than a backup. A draw would probably have been a fair result but we’ve been on the wrong end of a couple results already this season where we should’ve got something .. so maybe we deserved a break today. We still lack a clinical finishing edge. Defensively we’re getting a bit more like our old selves .. apart from a complete inability to defend crosses. One other thing .. could SP please get them to practise set pieces (both for and against) at training next week. Very happy with that result tho.

Mochrie was impressive and so was Waddell.
Good Montrose win but feel we deserved to take something from the game. Think we deserved a point from it. No sore loser though, it's a defeat and onto the next game .
Montrose are a well drilled side with no real weaknesses; solid outfit

Will you be passing this, what seems like a fair assessment, onto the Cove Rangers FC match reporter?
Really looking forward to reading it later.....[emoji16]

Very pleased for Kerr. Has had some well documented issues re mental health and has had to drag himself back from a difficult place. Was faultless today.

Haha, expecting nothing less than a cringe worthy piece of literature from the Cove reporter.

We got beaten by a solid side who were clinical with their shots on target and are well versed. Yes we can feel sorry for ourselves a little bit but you need play well for the whole 90 minutes which we didn't.

We'll probably play similar to that in some games this season and get points but today we got nothing.

Next 4 games are Dumbarton (a), Clyde (h), Forfar (a) and Peterhead (h). Need to put in strong performances and get on a winning run.

As soon as I scanned the team sheet and saw Mitch was out I worried (think I said that on here before the game started). He's our energy upfront, has speed, creativity and deadly when given a chance. Not only that he links play up. Any other position we have some kind of decent cover.

Need another striker who can fill in and Rory isn't it, either is McIntosh who isn't instinctively a finisher from what I've seen so far. Has some pace and will create some chances but not reliable at L1 level.

Completely agree Rory is past it at least as a lone striker.  Needs to be warming the bench. With Mitch he can benefit from the work rate and get poacher finishes but by himself he's gone.

Firstly a bit of useless information. Cove Rangers yesterday became Montrose's 67th opponents in a SFL/SPFL league game. Well done them on what they've done so far. As for the game Cove shaded the first half and deservedly were 1-0 up. Neither side were at full strength but that's where squad strength comes into play and that showed in the second half as Montrose held their nerve (and the scoreline) then used substitutions and fresh legs to advantage. Cove will go on a run again because they are a decent side but equally they will lose games as well by playing in a league where there are no soft touches. They will be up for games against the likes of Partick, Falkirk and Airdrie but also have to be up for it against the lesser lights like Montrose who can be a bit of a nuisance as well. A set back for Cove but I doubt if it will be  the start of a rot  - just a bit of the L1 learning curve.

From my vantage point on a fence behind Mackenzie, that was a beaut of a curler into Mackenzie's top left corner. Good pen from Webby too. Not the best view but after 8 months it's a treat.

Let's hold on now.

After standing on Redmoss Road for the first 45, so sad we never saw the second half goals but once they changed ends us 5ft nothings couldn't see MacKenzie, it didn't seem worth staying...

Thank heavens for highlights and "TV" this year... one good thing to come out of the C-19 saga, better than nowt streaming coverage.
