Alan Nixon is saying today that he thinks Celtic will hire a Director of Football (not unexpected), but also says he'll be asked to work with the existing staff of Kennedy and Strachan, which is unexpected.

Also says he thinks Roy Keane will tick "a lot of boxes" for Desmond.

If true rules out a lot of candidates who will want there own team and would be very very shortsighted.

Can’t see it as it puts us in exactly the same situation we are trying today to come out of

I assume the thinking is to keep a degree of continuity, which will be in short supply.

It's not unheard of for coaches to stay at teams throughout managerial changes, but it is a bit unusual to tell an incoming manager he can only hire one or two staff members.

I don’t see the benefit of retaining a degree of continuity in this scenario.

We can’t hide the fact the squad needs a significant rebuild so keeping coaches in situ doesn’t really offer any significant benefit so I’m struggling to what the board see as a major benefit.

A new coach needs total autonomy over this if we are to come out of this in a position to challenge Rangers next season imo

The winners of  the league next season could go straight into the champions league group stages.
Celtic have set a precedent for any manager coming into the club if they don't win the league.

Who do you want willy? Think a bit of Keano in the dugout will be good?

If Celtic can sack Billy McNeil,Tommy Burns and Neil Lennon for not winning the league it really doesn't matter who it is.

You must have some thoughts on who you'd prefer?

Please, please, please be Keane.

Apart from the obvious car crash his no doubt short reign would be and the inevitable public heads gone that would follow, I'd love to see a seething Roy Keane on the touchline with guys like John Hughes and Davie Martindale.

All joking aside, he would be an absolutely shocking appointment. Mental he is even up for consideration given he hasnt managed in over 10 years, even then he was generally a poor manager. His punditry gigs, while funny at times, generally just involve him telling player x or team x that they arent good enough. I've yet to see him give actual tactical analysis of anything.

He's as much of a like for like replacement for Lennon as you are ever likely to find

Had to google who Alan Nixon so will take his views with a large pinch of salt. Keane however iirc correctly, said  in his second autobiography that Deila was meant to be his assistant initially when offered the Celtic job which he had little issue with. The stumbling block was that he was earning way more as assistant manager at a Financially stricken Aston Villa than Celtic offered him.

Rumours Neil Lennon is being lined up to replace Wilder at Sheffield United

Surely no?

At least Lennon will know how felt downgrade wise with him by going from Eddie to McBurnie.
