Brechin City v Stranraer

Recommended Posts

Thoroughly enjoyed that yesterday. Job done.

Four goals from four different forwards and some excellent teamwork to create the opportunities. Fantastic running by Tam Orr to create the third goal and great anticipation by Darryl Duffy to be right on the spot when required!

First half was untidy. We did go ahead thanks to great finish by Ruari Paton and thanks to the home defence allowing him all the time he needed. But then we switched off, conceded an equaliser, and lived a bit dangerously. Didn’t really get going again until Orr headed home our second after the break.

This time we did what we had failed to do after Ruari’s opener and pushed on with Duffy grabbing that third. Pleasing to see Jinky coming off the bench and icing the cake with a fourth.

Credit for Brechin’s equaliser - pinpoint corner and an unstoppable header.

One of those games where it was hard to pick a man of the match - probably Orr for his hugely impressive shift, with assist and goal on-top!

I have said this to other teams supporters that have scudded us its really difficult to know how good your performance was because we are fucking honking must be a teams dream to play against our non existent  defence

Is there a reason why the Brechin team is absolutely full of 20 year olds - money?

Yes I would say  money played a big part also our last few years does not make us appealing to players, but has to be said that Mark Wilson's recruitment was not great for me highlighted by retaining probably one of the worst defenders ever seen at Glebe park Jonathon Page and then making him captain was unbelievable

When we unexpectedly got promotion to the championship, we had a fairly competent league 1 side who actually lost more games than they won that season. The committee decided not to splash out, live within their means  and go with basically the same squad in the championship. That backfired big time and at the end of the season , Dods decided to clear the decks and start again (along with some key players deciding enough was enough ) . That proved a big mistake as he couldn't find the amount of quality players required to steady the ship.

Dods was sacked not long after assembling the squad , Barry Smith came in and decided to have another clear out , same results but the quality of players available seemed to be getting worse . They were young trialists bolstered by experienced guys well past their best.  After assembling this squad , Smith was punted a couple of months into last season .

Mark Wilson then came in and had to work with that squad with a couple of January additions but by then the losing mentality was in and we finished bottom when the league was stopped prematurely.

Mark decided another clear out was needed and assembled this squad of youngsters in the hope they would show a bit more hunger to succeed than the experienced bunch who let us down last season .  And there we have it.  Paton now has to try and find a way to get these guys performing as he can't change much until January. Let's hope any changes are for the better as our recent history doesn't bode well.
