In Utah, a helicopter full of of sheep surveyors have found an unexplained metal monolith embedded in a rock. The intrepid band were counting sheep in Red Rock County when they saw something curious. Upon further investigation they found a 12 foot high metal pillar, riveted into the rock. There seem to be no markings or explanations on the object.

The coming of this obelisk was hinted at on Monday's University Challenge when Paxo asked the question "The French word for 'high' is an anagram of which US state ?'

Obviously, Jeremy Paxman is the Man Who Fell To Earth.

You think someone woke up yesterday in somewhere random like Kilmarnock to a note from Hermes along the lines of off

"Your parcel: 12 foot monolith

Has been delivered too: Neighbour ☒ Safe Place: ☐ Returned to depot: ☐

At address: Utah"

Have any P&Bers ever found an unexplained object while surveying sheep from a helicopter in Utah?

What are the odds that this is a marker sent by aliens?

Would P&Bers like to join me in welcoming our monolith overlords?

Unexplained static solid monolith?   I believe the US scientists have termed it a "McBurnie"

That's not a monolith. Monoliths are made out of stone.  That is made out of metal, which is not stone.

I was thinking that. My encyclopaedic knowledge of Raiders of the Lost Ark meant I remembered "lithic" meaning stone.

Possibly. I've also seen geocaching being suggested or a way of collecting rain water for grouse to drink

Aye, you wouldn't want them dying of thirst before someone had a chance to shoot them.
