3 games yesterday. Early game Sydney secured 2nd spot from the Roar who were then in 3rd place. Along come the Mariners who make it 8 defeats in a row for WUN and they jump finish in 3rd place with Roar in 4th. In the late game Jets and Glory drew with Jets moving to 2nd bottom on goal difference hoping the MelC will beat MelV today.

In the play-offs Semi Finals it’s  Central Coast Mariners v Macarthur on Sat 12 June and on Sunday Brisbane Roar v Adelaide United. The following week’s Elimination Finals are Friday 18 June Melbourne City v the lowest ranked winner and on the Saturday Sydney v the highest ranked winner. City’s game might have to be played outside Melbourne if still under lockdown. Grand Final on Saturday 26 June venue TBA.

It’s a fix, City have a goal disallowed in added time then a 95th minute equaliser for Victory. Jets have a game in hand to secure a win or a draw to move back to 2nd bottom. Only problem is it’s away to City although it will probable be moved to Sydney.

Hats off to Apostolos Stamatelopoulos for scoring Jets 89th minute winner against MelC in Sydney to give Victory their first wooden spoon. Great Jets equaliser and first A-League goal from 16 year old Archie Goodwin.

The joys of sudden death play-offs. 3rd lost to 6th last night and this afternoon 4th lost to 5th. Two great goals from Tommy Juric and AU head to Sydney for a Saturday night game. Melbourne City v Macarthur is scheduled for AAMI Park in Melbourne on Sunday afternoon but wouldn’t be surprised if it gets moved out of Victoria.

Superb first season for MacArthur. They should never have gotten into the league ahead of the non-Sydney/Melbourne bids but a good first season should help them build a supporter base & as a club they are way less annoying than Western United.

Now get to play their "away" semi-final in Sydney against a City team with 3 players missing on international duty. The A-League has to line up with international windows. Its making a farce of the biggest games of the season.

New National League competition format confirmed

Quote

New Zealand Football has confirmed the details of its brand-new competition the National League.

View the new National League branding as well as more details on the competition

The National League is New Zealand Football’s biggest ever football league competition. As announced in December, the new competition is designed to prioritise youth development and sustainability while providing an open structure that allows any club in the country the ability to compete at a national level in both women’s and men’s football. This is a move away from the previous franchise or regional based models, which only allowed a select group of teams to compete at national level.

The men’s competition features 30 teams competing in three regional leagues, the Northern League, the Central League and the Southern League, with the top sides in each qualifying for the National League Championship phase. The regional leagues run across the traditional winter football season, with the National League Championship phase taking place from October to December.

The women’s competition will see the best four club sides from the northern region, plus four federation sides from the rest of the country, competing over 14 rounds for the National League Championship title from September to December. The competition will transition to a fully club-based model as capability grows.

All games in the National League Championship phase, for both the women’s and men’s competitions, will be broadcast on Sky Sport or streamed live.

“This is a game changer for football in New Zealand,” says Andrew Pragnell, CEO of New Zealand Football.

“The new National League gives young Kiwi talent the best chance of succeeding in the game, allows fans to support one club throughout one season and provides a truly sustainable base for the future of football in New Zealand.”

Football NSW is reforming its structure going from 12-12-12-12 to 16-16-16 for the 2022 season onwards. 16th relegated with the 15th placed team going into a playoff vs 2rd in the division below. Finals series being scrapped along with non-senior results being factored into promotion/relegation.

Things however not going so smoothly over in Queensland. Football Brisbane has had it's affiliation to Football Queensland terminated. This seems to be a response to the regional zones voting down reforms/changes proposed by Football Queensland. The reforms in question as far as I understand include Football Brisbane being merged into Football Queensland & it's leagues/clubs becoming part of the Queensland pyramid at it's 4th tier & below. Football Queensland don't have the best reputation from what I can gather.
