Cup action today Sydney FC v Central Coast Mariners (07:00 BST)

Last night’s goals

Thought Magpies Crusaders United had to be some sort of awful sponsorship name but it gets worse. Officially Mackay & Whitsundays Magpies Crusaders United Football Club a new club through amalgamation apparently. Eat your heart out Inverness.

Didn’t realise there were 2 Australia Cup ties yesterday and there was a shock in one when Sydney United 58 beat A-League champions Western United 4-3 on penalties after 1-1. In the other game Peninsula Power beat Green Gully Cavaliers 2-1.

Last four Australia Cup Round of 16 ties tonight with the Adelaide derby Adelaide City (2j v Adelaide United. Adelaide City completed the league and cup double on Saturday winning the league by 1 point. They’re only Premiers though as they have to win the Finals series to become Champions. Adelaide United’s coach, Carl Veart, played over 300 games for Adelaide City, most of them in the old NSL before moving to Adelaide United for the first two season’s of the A-League. The other 3 games are all in Melbourne which is ridiculous scheduling. Melbourne City v Wellington Phoenix in an all A-League tie being played at Casey Fields an Aussie Rules oval , Oakleigh Cannons (2) v Brisbane City (2) and Avondale (2) v Brisbane Roar.

The week before Sydney United 58 bumped off A-League, Western United they lost to level 3 NWS Spirit in the Final of the Waratah Cup, the NSW cup.

Did you go to the Adelaide derby @Eednud?

No I chose the warm house, beer and streaming option.

Quarter Final draw, looks like games listed for 31 Aug, except the first one which is 28 Aug. Like the way they ensure at least one NPL side will make the SF and that NPL sides are always drawn at home to A-League sides.

Peninsula Power (2) v Sydney United 58 (2)

Oakleigh Cannons (2) v Sydney FC

Adelaide United v Brisbane Roar (will be played at same ground as the last round)

Macarthur FC v Wellington Phoenix

Rest of the Australia Cup Quarter Final ties tonight.

Oakleigh Cannons (2) v Sydney FC

Adelaide United v Brisbane Roar

Macarthur FC v Wellington Phoenix

Would like to see Oakleigh, Adelaide United and Phoenix win and if they stick to the way the draw works it should be Oakleigh v Sydney United SF.

Upset in today’s Australia Cup Semi Final with NPL side Sydney United 58 came back from being behind twice to defeat Brisbane Roar 3-2 aet. They become the first NPL finalist. Now if Oakleigh Cannons can we do the same to Macarthur on Wednesday.
