It sort of is. Last season we were horrendous in attack, barely creating chances, yet Hendry hit a run of goalscoring form he's unlikely to ever match. He was regularly scoring with his only shot of the game.

Yet this season lack of goal threat is the system? Same players = Same problems.

Really? Where are you getting this 'horrendous in attack' ?  We started the season in dreadful form , failing to win in the first 9, but once we sorted the defence out we were playing fine.  Most of us on here were commenting on how good a partnership May and Hendry were forming upto the season being curtailed early.  Plus midfielders were weighing in with a few goals.

At home:

2019-20  Scored 19 goals in 16 matches.  Failed to score in 5 of 16 matches. Scored 2 or more in 6 of 16 matches.

2020-21  Scored 3 goals in 8 matches.     Failed to score in 5 of 8 matches.    Scored 2 or more in 0 of 8 matches.

There is no comparison here. Last season at home, which was far from a stellar season, we were massively more effective in attack than we've been so far this season.

Away from home this season is better, which backs the point I'm making about our system being ideal for away matches and matches at home v OF, but we need to be more positive in the way we set up at home against the teams around us in the league.

I didn't watch the game until the end, Dodgy stream n that and missed it as I was out unexpectedly.

Would have hated to pay the over priced £17.50 for this. Sounded rotten. A point isnae the worst thing ever.

The reality is we were out of sorts today. A combination of factors. Players ruled out at the last minute. A field that should be growing King Edward potatoes. A referee that missed a blatant red card from Bryson.

Next week a different kettle of fish altogether. We will win as we did earlier in the season. Still would rather have got 3 points today but to be fair to the farmers we have had a poor record in Perth in general.

It will be like the ballroom next week

We have no chance next week going by the farmers on here. They are wild. Drew with us. We are missing a few players. Still Ali McCann is quality though eh. Not as good as Campbell

Wow ! Yet another team "Out of Sorts today " when playing against St Johnstone, It's becoming the opposition mantra...Mind you its easier on the ego than actually admitting that your team was second best and lucky to get a point I suppose 🙄

Because Hendry hit a run of goalscoring that saw him scoring at a better rate than Morelos and Griffiths, and similar to Edouard.

Every attacking metric is up this season, the only difference between this season and last is last season getting lucky with Hendry, and this season not.

If we keep playing well then we either get lucky with another attacker hitting a run of form, if not, we try and improve the actual personnel. Melamed could be part of both.

Hendry got goals in part because we had a second striker in the box to get on the end of things.  I would argue May is far more effective with a striker alongside him as well as a lot of the good things he does are outside the box.

Hendry scored 7 league goals in 20 appearances last season.  Stevie May scored 6 in 24.

You're making out Hendry had some unbelievable streak of scoring when in reality he scored 3 before the winter break, and 4 after.  He scored in the second game of the season and in the last game of the season.

With the exception of the run and finish at home to rangers, and a good strike against accies from about 10 yards out, for the most part they were typical penalty box strikers' finishes.

If we're basing Hendrys goal exploits on his goals per games then we're talking in completely different rooms, so this is pointless.

Hendrys GvxG, and Gp90, rates were well, well, beyond what any striker at our club will likely ever do again, and puts him up there as one of the best outright strikers the league has seen since turning into the SPFL.

It wasn't sustainable, as we're now seeing, and claiming that its repeatable by having a second striker near him isn't something I can agree with.

Do we look more dangerous with 2 CFs? Yes.

Are we more dangerous with 2 CFs? No.

Gaffers got to be braver with 20 mins to go and get an extra forward on especially when restricted the opposition to very little. Wonder if the enforced Injury subs altered the plan to introduce both Kane and Guy towards the end?

That’s what I think,he’d be taking Spoony off and playing two up top, with Conway deeper, but Conway going off scuppered that

Lucky to get a point?

Remind us again how many shots you had on target with the exception of the penalty or how many saves our goalie had to make.

Possession means feck all unless there is an end result.

If truth be told in the 2nd half both teams looked as if they could have played till next week and not scored again.

Right now we have a better 1st team than St Johnstone. In fact most of the league apart from the top 4.

We are little different to the team that finished 3rd last season. In fact I would say we are better. The problem is that we have such a stop start season. 2 winnable games called off which meant we have played the old firm twice in 4 games rather than 6. Then today we have our under 21 players missing. Add that to the fact that Declan and SOD are probably still knackered. Carson another Internationalist injured also.

St Johnstone have done remarkably well over the past ten years with such a small fan base. Deserve great credit.

I think the league cup game will be a better barometer of both teams fortunes this season. We will still be missing Campbell but looks like you will be missing Davidson and Conway.

So we've gone from having a "horrendous attack" last season, to one of the best outright strikers the league has seen since turning into the SPFL, and attacking performances beyond what any striker at our club will likely ever do again?

Wow, a team "lucky to get a point" against St Johnstone for the 10th time in 14 games this season!

We were clearly more dangerous last season. RandomGuy loves an argument though. (And a wee bit of Tommy Wright bashing).

Yes.

We have an attack that barely creates chances, like this season.

Last season Hendry was converting chances at an unrealistic, unsustainable rate. This season he is not.

He scored 0.88 goals per 90, a rate that only Edouard last season has bettered over the past 3 years. That was 0.38 higher than his xG, an overperformance that was almost double every other striker who's played in the league over the past 3 years. He was averaging 2.9 shots per90, this season hes averaging 3.4 shots per90, and his xG is 0.4, compared to 0.5 last season.

Both May and Kane are both getting more shots, and more shots on target this season. Both have higher xG this season.

The problem isn't that were less attacking than last season, its that the players we have don't create enough chances. Same issue as last season, apart from Hendry now dipping due to massive overperformance last season.
