In terms of future seedings, do tournament results not carry much more weight than anything else? 4 points at the Euros would make a big impact

WC qualifying pots are based on world ranking.

Euro qualifying pots are based on Nations League ladder.

Absolute pisser to fail to win the group from the position we were in, with the worst performance since Czechia away.

Everyone would have taken going through v Serbia then losing the next two games if given the choice, but it didn't have to be one or the other. We were gifted this group through the Czech's bad luck and still managed to throw it away. Winning these games would have put us in a tremendous position for both 2022 & 2024, we had a chance here to make ourselves a pot two side and be in a great position for tournaments to come.

It's a wake up call about how good we actually are after the euphoria of Thursday, and how much work we have to do to compete at the tournament. The system is a work in progress, but we've had three objectively bad results which would have killed us in qualifying groups with it, the kind of results which did kill us in every qualifying group for the last 20 years. That needs to stop if we're going to get through a World Cup group, and we've thrown away the Nations League route that gives us a second chance if we do have those f**k up in a group over the last four days.

Well organised, hard to break down but  in the final 3rd we're lacking a cutting edge. Not getting the dourness on here, we're not world beaters despite some of us getting carried away last week.

Calling Clarke "tactically inept" after he steered this shower of shite into the European Championships is mental.

What would you have said if they had lost either penalty shootout.? Unfortunately I don't think he has a plan B if we go behind.

The thing about Plan Bs is that they're not as good as Plan As. If they were, they'd be Plan A.

Anything Clarke can do to increase the chances of this team scoring also increases the chances of them conceding. And without Fraser or Forrest we have bugger all options to improve our forward play. Oli Burke and Callum Paterson, FFS.

Re the rule changes, they may well change future seeding to be based off the placements, it has been rumoured for a while.

In that case, we'd really be looking to consistently finish in the top 20 placements so it would be a case of either competing in the top division or winning the second tier group.

I think it's really important we take this competition seriously because of that and the potential to get our coefficient moving in the right direction. We've had many poor years but the seeding does make the cycle much much harder to break out of whilst others ride off of short periods of success for years.

Possibly taking Nations League placings into account for Euro qualification seeding.

Unlikely to happen for World Cup seeding. FIFA insists on only using FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings for everything related to the World Cup.

Agreed on how disastrous the result is but the performance wasn't. See King Kebab's stat screenshot. We had plenty of attacking play, plenty of chances...we were just powderpuff and wasteful with them. Israel had a fair few chances too, but laced one home instead of dithering or making the wrong decision

Edit: also, for the number of corners plus crosses we had, it's disappointing that we didn't get one strong header on target (IIRC)

Rubbish. We had 32 goal attempts in the 2 games. Poor finishing cost us the 2 games.

Aye and how many did we score FFS ?...Completely outfoxed. We were 5 points ahead with 2 to play. Took 6 points from the Czechs and still we couldn't qualify.

Israel took 4 points off us.

Another game of some decent chances, all missed and a defeat.

We didnt look to good when Israel put together bursts of quick pass and movement play. They could have had a 2nd goal as much as we might have nicked one.

The 3 games this 7 days has drawn a line of where we are...a decent well organised team that can nick a goal...or lose by a goal and that's about it really.

Correct.

UEFA only receive 3 more*... 13 > 16.

*plus in future host slot(s) will be deducted from their continent's allocation - not additional

Everyone in Europe already watches the World Cup.

FIFA want to open up new revenue/ad streams in other places around the world.

Don't watch much late night Europa League highlights then I take it?  I'm talking Lokomotiv Plovdiv v FK Carrier-bag style here. It's the hipsters' choice, all the kool kids are doing it.

Here and there but have yet to see that.  Parking the bus taken to another level.

I once watched Airdrie have 13 unsuccessful corners against Brechin and it was as much us frustration  as Scotland's corner failure tonight. So many half chances and reasonable goalkeeping by Marciano, but like many others' s views, Israel never looked rattled at any point in any of our recent matches. Good to be in Euros but a chance to progress was maybe lost with all the changes against Slovakia. Never mind we do have something to look forward to in June.

Shows our ineptitude up front really!!!IMG_1605736682.179060.thumb.jpg.bf0401ab849580efeb3880c1ca957e27.jpg
Surely enough chances there to win a game!!!

14 shots against Slovakia as well. 33 shots and 0 goals, need to be doing better than that. Still optimistic about the euros but this has been a big disappointment
