Hello everyone. We are nearly at the Round of 16 stage of this years League cup with all 16 competitors confirmed (Seeding still yet to be fully decided). We would be further ahead in the schedule if it wasn't for some Major Pandemic interfering, but in any case, the draw is nearly upon us.

The 2020 League Cup fixtures have nearly wrapped up, with 1 to go (Dundee vs Hibernian game), but the qualified teams have all been confirmed, with only the seeding for 3 teams to be confirmed. You can see the list of confirmed teams down below:

Seeded:

  1. Celtic
  2. Rangers
  3. Motherwell
  4. Aberdeen
  5. Hearts
  6. Dunfermline
  7. Livingston
  8. One of Dundee/Hibernian/Ross County

Unseeded:

  1. One of Dundee/Hibernian/Ross County
  2. One of Dundee/Hibernian/Ross County
  3. Arbroath
  4. Falkirk
  5. Ayr United
  6. St Mirren
  7. St Johnstone
  8. Alloa Athletic

Regarding the situation with Dundee/Hibernian/Ross County, it is simple. Ross County are currently the 4th highest winners out of all of the groups. they have 11 points from the 4 games which would normally lead to a seeded place. However both Hibernian And Dundee have 9 points and are due to play each other. This means a win for either team would leave them unseeded. Similarly if it is a draw and Dundee win the bonus point, they will also be unseeded. Here is a breakdown of who will be seeded depending on which result.

  • Dundee: Win or Draw + win the bonus point.
  • Hibernian: Win.
  • Ross County: Draw + Hibernian win the bonus point.

The Dundee vs Hibernian game is on Premier Sport tomorrow at 16:30, with the actual draw to take place shortly after on the same channel. Other websites like BBC and Sky Sports will also cover the draw.

What are your thoughts about this draw? Who would you prefer in the last 16 (if your team has made it? Ideally I hope to avoid another Premiership Club as we seem to get either Premiership or recently relegated teams. I'm hoping for the easiest ties available, such as Alloa, Ayr United or Arbroath.

Also good luck!

Edit 1: Mistakenly put Annan instead of Ayr. The BBC website still had them on 7 points and therefor Annan ahead on goal difference)

Ayr through, not Annan.
Though based on today it'll still be one of the easiest ties for you.

Yeah. The BBC had Annan and Ayr level on points for some reason (With Annan on top on Goal Difference).

Edit: It was the bonus point that was missing.

Seems to be a bit unfair that some section winners are seeded, whilst others are not.

Far fairer to pair up the four section runners-up with the four Europe clubs, then pair the 8 group winners with each other.

But ultimately, all the SFA and Betfred want is an OF Final, so everyone else can go whistle.

Why would it be fairer to seed 4 teams who finished 2nd than the 4 best team over the course of the group stage?

The European qualifiers have already had a bye and you want to set them up with an even easier draw in the second round as well? That doesn’t sound particularly fair

Note that I reserve to change my mind next time Hearts are back in the top 4

Sorry - My explanation was clumsy.

I suppose I mean we should have three tiers of seeds.

One - Europe sides

Two - Group Winners

Three - Group runners-up

But perhaps I am over-complicating things.  And , as another poster rightly stated - why should the Europe sides (who have already had a bye), be favoured?

The beginning of this post reads like a script for live Sky coverage. 😂

What has the SFA got to do with anything?
