Brian McClair was a top player but not prolific either took playing in a finals for him to bag his first goal

McClair was always better for club than country ( although he was not helped by being played as a left winger for Scotland )

His goal against USSR , CSSP whatever came with the aid of a DEFLECTION

McBurnie kept getting himself in good areas to score,if he can keep doing that he will score

And shows why he has done well down south in championship

Maybe though we shouldn't always be picking him out

If there is a chance to shoot take it themselves

And he can follow it in on the rebound if needed to

What got me though is how he doesn't gamble on far post or near post

Was times were he could and he was so static

Good strikers are always gambling in those kind of situations

Massive contradicting yourself Tartan Dry horse

" he as done well down south in the championship "

( really )

but " he doesn't gamble on far post or near post "

He is not going to score at the posts then , some striker

" he was so static " , death knell for a striker

wtf ?

I mean hit more shots obviously

We have the quality not always needing to rely on the C.F.

Against Slovacks we looked hell bent on trying to get him a goal

When on other occasions we would went more direct and shot

Like part of the pre match talk was about him breaking his duck

Picking him out resulted in four mist chances

When wee Christie could just have had a shot

Good attackers follow it in anyway for any breaks

Pretty rudimentary stuff that is easy to grasp

Hope we can do that next time

And not just rely on Dykes winning forward balls

To break them down we need crosses into the box

As well as sharp play in the final third and starting at a high tempo

Starting and finishing the game before and after HT

Perspiration and concentration goes a long way when we press them high up the park

Defense and keeper have to be switched on at all times

Israel will have a few chances

And Marshall will no doubt have a big save to make maybe two

Our focus needs to be how to break them down though

When they will try and stifle our play

17 championship goals for Swansea is doing well

Last Scottish guy finding those numbers there was probably McCormack

It is looking very much like we need a different back up plan when Dykes is injured, suspended or needs subbed off.

On the positive side he almost never is. In more than 3 years with us he never missed a single game injured or suspended and in his last season played every minute of every game in a 50 game season until being subbed off 10 mins early in the playoff final.

He did miss 2 or 3 games early in his Livi career with a bad ankle injury but even that he got back from a fortnight ahead of medical expectations.

Clarke has shown a tendency to sub him off with 20 mins or so to go but although its a higher standard of football I'm not convinced he actually needs to. Lyndon is a real workhorse.

McCormack and Rhodes last to hit 20 and above and we are going back to what, season 16/17.

Since then Scottish players  to get into double figures in the championship would be confined to Fletcher, Martin, Paterson and maybe Russell.
