I bought these. Didn’t check the price but they were at the end of an aisle. Probably last years ones that they couldn’t shift. Date on the box is January 21.

MINCE PIE WATCH 2020

WALKER’S GLENFIDDICH LUXURY MINCE PIES 

SIZE: Good diameter, a little shallow. 7/10
CRUST: Pale, a bit too crumbly. 4/10
FILLING: Tasty, a little hint of whisky in there which wasn’t overpowering. A little dry. 6/10
LID: Pale, plain. 5/10
BONUS: No bonus points for Union Fleg branded Walker’s shortbread b*****ds. 0/10
PAIRING: Pair these with a better whisky than Glenfiddich 12.

MINCE PIE WATCH 2020

ALDI SPECIALLY SELECTED ALL BUTTER CLASSIC MINCE PIES WITH BRANDY & COGNAC

SIZE: Good diameter, a tiny bit shallow. 8/10
CRUST: Decent toast and held up well till the very end. 8/10
FILLING: A little dry. Didn’t realise there was brandy and cognac in till I came to write the review. 5/10
LID: A wee bit rough, and the sugar sprinkling went all over the shop as I wrestled number 5 of of the box: 5/10
BONUS: They were a gift, alongside a wee dram. (Thanks to our sponsors). But there’s a “Made in Britain” badge on the packaging. 0/10
PAIRING: Pair these with a cloth to clean up all the spilled sugar.

STARBUCKS MINCE PIES

SIZE:  Huge. 10/10
CRUST: Thick, buttery, every so slightly crumbly. Tiny bit pale. 8/10.
FILLING: Big chunky bits of tasty fruit. Well-filled. 9/10.
LID: Plain. Dusted. Quite thick. Meh. 5/10
BONUS: Tax dodging gimps get no bonus. 0/10
PAIRING: Pair these with a good old slice of Scottish nerve jangling nonsense.

Incredibly sweet straight out the oven.  My extra thick clotted cream probably did me no favours.  Could do with a little more fruit but very nice.

SIZE:  Appropriate. 7/10
CRUST: Thick, but really chewy. Pale too. 2/10
FILLING: really, really claggy and not at all moreish. 2/10.
LID: Ugly, plain, pale and caved in. With a little sprinkling of sugar. 2/10
BONUS: Bonus? Asda? Come on! 0/10
PAIRING: Pair these with a couple of pints of milk, just to get by the claggyness.

Plain lid? I think there’s a sprig of holly. Either way, I get the message: avoid these.

As much as I am enjoying the thread, I can't help but feel that a picture of each pie alongside a point of reference - such as an old penny or a wagon wheel - would help us better envisage the size of the pie (I know he's given a size rating but these are done in isolation and the mind can play tricks).
