Dumbarton vs Clyde

I don’t think for one second Dumbarton wanted the game off for injury reasons or whatever.

What I do believe - and is becoming pretty clear - is that their quagmire of a playing surface which deteriorates at the mere hint of rain might present a bit of an issue in the Scottish winter.

You've chosen a very apt username anyway.

Clyde fans on twitter having meltdowns about how we have intentionally got the game postponed and have ‘ shat the bed’ against the massive footballing superpower that is Clyde FC. Come on lads let’s stop this before it gets any more embarrassing 🤣

The embarrassment of this is one sided .

Perhaps more could’ve been done to prevent cancellation? But do we know the facts though? Naw. The assumption that this has in any way been cancelled due to us having ‘ a threadbare squad’ or ‘ shiting the bed’ is ludicrous.

Seems to be a few angrier at Clyde fans annoyance at the match being off rather than what appears to be very little attempt this morning to work on the pitch knowing fine well the weather was to be what it was overnight.

Based on one guy out walking his dog at half 10?  Come on boys, this is getting silly.

I don’t believe for a minute that it’s been called off due to anything but the condition of the pitch. How bad is the drainage there ? Is this a frequent problem ? The rain we’ve had isn’t out of the ordinary at all which makes me think that the club needs to get some work done to the drainage (although in current times, money will be somewhat tight so easier said than done).

How many postponments have we had over the last few seasons that leads you to such a conclusion?

I think we've had eight postponments in the last four years. Plus nobody on here actually knows for certain that there was no work done on it today. Dumbarton rock only said that there was nobody there at 10.30. I'm sure there would've been someone there after that.

The last part isn't aimed at you BBPF but at the knicker wetting Clyde fans.

Not only is it the sole game in the top five leagues in Scotland called off, it's the only one with even a pitch inspection called.

It's not a great look is it?

Probably about 70% of the grounds are artificial surfaces.

If it turns out they were working on the pitch then fine, but there has been nothing even from the club so far to suggest this is the case. If that is the case it seems stupid given what the weather was like.

And here's one of the reasons why that's the case. If you choose to have a grass surface in Scotland playing a winter sport, then you should be investing in proper maintenance staff to look after it.

Judging by the early posts in this thread before the postponement, there's certainly questions to be had there.

But anyway, shit happens in Scotland and let's hope we can get it played before Xmas.

Why would the club be giving us a blow by blow account of what was happening to prepare for a game? Are they supposed to be tweeting that they've cleaned the toilets or swept the concourse too?

Nope but 3 words in the announcement would haven stopped any of this discussions. "Despite best efforts" or something along those lines. Or is everyone currently boarding Noah's Ark and we have all grossly underestimated the rainfall?
