Have you ever left a game mid way through? If so, why..

Why that league team though?

Because when my dad and uncle were growing up, Rangers and Aberdeen were the dominant teams at the time. So, because they're brothers and they liked to scrap a lot, my dad picked Rangers and my uncle picked Aberdeen. It's pretty simple.

I mean, if folk from the Central Belt don't like the fact that people from the Highlands support Rangers and Celtic, maybe their clubs shouldn't have vetoed all the applications from Highland League teams to join the SFL back in the day?

Just once, this game:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_div_1/7288852.stm

Allan Creer having the worst game I have ever seen a keeper have at any level, Ayr just hitting shots from anywhere and Creer either palming them into his own net, misjudging them completely or just dropping them at Ayr player's feet. After the fourth went in I left for the Mallard where I think I became a seething, raging mess.

EDIT: I may have left the 1-4 defeat to Raith in the cup- or I was thrown out, I can't remember.

I've only left a couple a games early by choice.

First was a preseason friendly against Gretna at East End. Think it was 2007.

I jumped a seat and ripped the arse out of my shorts. Had to nip away to Asda Halbeath for some new garments.

There was one not too long ago, but I can't recall what game it was. It was a pumping based walk out (sadly not the good kind; we were getting pumped). Think it was more because the folk I was with fucked off and I wasn't really all for staying behind by myself.

There were, I think, 2 occasions I left Ibrox at half time and went to the boozer.

Both for the same reason, it was in our days working up the leagues, the standard of football was horrible and it was winter so it was freezing.

On the flip side, I was late into a visit to Easter Road due to their abysmal away end turnstiles and I missed Stokes putting them ahead after about 12 seconds. Thankfully we won 4-1 so it was probably the best goal to have missed in the match.

I also remember in the year Hearts beat us to the Championship title we played them at Ibrox one evening and it was a blizzard. We got stuck on the M8 and never even made it to the ground before the game had kicked off and was then ultimately cancelled due to the snow.

I wouldn't say "loads of times" but certainly more than once, starting with the Summer Cup Final play off against Hibs in 1965.

Two others that immediately come to mind both involved Coleraine v Glentoran. 0-3 down at home I sloped off to the pub with a good 20 minutes to go. 0-4 down at half time in a semi final (Ulster Cup?) a car load of us left Ballymena and were home before full time. Also the entire bus left The Oval before the end as we were 4-0 down to Portadown in an Irish Cup semi-final..

Come to think of it, maybe there were loads of times...

Left about 20 minutes to go at an Irish Cup semi final in Ballymena about 15ish years ago.

Score was 2-2 but the fire proof riot gear the cops were wearing put me off.

That and about 1000 redneck fleg wavers singing local folk songs.

Feel free to enlighten me on how it would be possible to follow East Fife in those days from Caithness then. Bearing in mind that the good thing about football is actually watching it.

Don’t listen to them, you support who you want, unless it’s Celtic or Sevco, then you’re a twat.

Got 'accidentally' put on to work a Saturday so instead of taking two breaks took one big one and made it to the second half of a Livi v Hamilton game.

It was 1-0 when I arrived at half time and 1-0 on the 85th minute when I left to get back for the last hour, finished 1-0. Lawless scoring a belter that day (I missed it of course). Still worth it tbh,

Was weird asking security to let me in at half time in my uniform and having to show them my season ticket :D

Don't suppose it really counts but a Zbrojovka Brno mid-season friendly against Vyškov two years ago during the winter break. Was about -5 at half time on a training pitch exposed to the elements and decided the pub was the better option.

Do you actually think that the people on here querying why the legions of glory hunters from the Highland support one or t’other of the gruesome twosome, had a vote in any of the applications to add Highland League clubs to the mainstream leagues? Really?

I phrased it badly, I was obviously referring to SFL clubs rather than fans. Will edit.

In any case, the point stands. SFL clubs refused to admit a Highland team for years because they didn’t want the travel, and now their fans are turning around asking why there are so many OF fans from these parts when it was the only league football people could watch.

So absolutely nothing to do with them winning most weeks?

Even at our worst, I'll usually wait until at least 80 mins before leaving. If we're a couple of goals up I usually think we'll chuck it but, strangely, when we're a couple of goals down I always feel we can make a comeback.

The earliest I've ever left a game was when we went 4-1 down to Dundee after about half an hour. Made it up the road just in time to hear we'd conceded a 5th.

Why is it such a major surprise to so many on here that people who’s only exposure to SPFL football is the weekly game on Sky overwhelmingly choose to support the football teams they can actually watch on a regular basis?

And yeah, teams that win a lot each week are going to have more support. That applies to every single sport and league.

The only time that I have left a match early was the Aberdeen v Rangers League Cup Semi Final in October 1976. We dominated this match from the off and the only surprise was that with just over 15 minutes left we were only 5.1 ahead. There were only a few hundred of us in the Kings Park end clustered together and when the fourth goal went in hordes of Rangers fans left their position in the Mount Florida end. Unfortunately they weren’t leaving, and they were streaming  into the Kings Park end and started to surround our pretty small group. A few of us decided that it was too risky to stay so made our way up the terracing to the top of the stairs. We then scored our fifth and the stream of Rangers fans coming into our end turned into a flood. Scarves in jackets and out we headed with the hordes passing us on the stairway. I’ll never forget that when we reached our bus and got on, the driver was listening to the match on the radio and the commentator matter of factly said “and with 2 minutes remaining, the score remains at Aberdeen 5 Rangers 1.” At least we didn’t miss any goals.

I should perhaps add that I have made my two sons sit through  entire matches of 7.0, 6.0 and 5.0 humpings at home to Celtic and Rangers over the years, mainly around the turn of the century.

A sad indictment for human nature.

Once, the 4-0 League Cup defeat at Tynecastle to Aberdeen.

Sat in the front row, drenched, then they scored their 4th in 70th odd minute. My dad stormed out to go back to the bus, and I half considered staying, until I realised the choice was between drying off in a warm bus, or sitting getting even more soaked in a game where we were more likely to concede another than score.

Add in the bizarre atmosphere in the crowd that day as you had a mix of diehards resigned to the fact we'd never win a Semi-Final, and day trippers who spent 90 minutes sitting in silence.

Bad, bad, day.

It's not a surprise at all.

It's depressingly predictable.

Could you perhaps elaborate on this one?

If I must.

I'd been out on the Friday night and got pretty fucked up, pulled a burd and went back to hers. It was a pretty mad night that involved various drugs and some viagra, not much sleeping put it that way. Met my mates in the pub in the morning and off we went to the football, gets inside the ground and the bitch starts saying she wants me back round to pump her again. Starts sending me pictures etc. Now anyone who knows what the after effects of viagra are will know that at the sight of the dirty pictures you will instantly have a boner again, so rather than sit watching Saints players take five touches to control a ball I took the sensible option and emptied mine.
