At the crossroads between Maxwellton St and George St in Paisley is a horseshoe and memorial to where some local women were burned as witches. The local legend was that if the horseshoe was taken away the town would suffer bad luck until returned.

Based on what I know of Paisley, I can only assume that isn't the original horseshoe

Goudie's has been there for decades. Keegan's  is fairly recent, it used to be a pub (Maxwellton Arms then The Mill House).

I wish I'd known about this years ago when I was in Buddies.

I remember that, just before the 1982 WC?

Helen Duncan, a medium and originally of Craigmillar, was found guilty of witchcraft at the Old Bailey and jailed.

This happened in1944....

A strange story to do with wartime paranoia as Duncan had revealed a couple of ships had been sunk by the Germans and the news had been kept from the public for morale purposes.

John Lennon had relatives in Edinburgh and spent a fair amount of time there as a kid.

He stayed in the Murrayfield area (relatives must have been posh) and went to the cinema in Gorgie.

I wonder if he ever got dragged along to Tynecastle; the original title of "8 days a week" being "8 games to go"...
