Billy Stark and Scott Gemmill

Think its about time these 2 had a thread to discuss whether they need replaced.

Does anyone think there doing a good job?

I've watched quite a few of Scott Gemmills u21 team games. And what is always apparent is how bad aesthetically they are. They play an absolutely stinking old school kick and rush. The benefits on technical young players like Gilmour must be negligible.

Despite playing this way, which is only for short term gain. We don't qualify for anything.

Same with the u19s, we dont qualify for anything.

I've not watched enough of Billy Clarks u19 team. But i remember him as morton manager. Where again it was hardly inspiring stuff. He's also gone from the u21s back to the u19s. Which just screams jobs for the boys.

Neither of these guys seems to have a good reputation. You never hear players or other managers or coaches praising them.

If we never qualify for anything, or neither team plays good football. Then what is the point of these guys. They achieve neither of the 2 objectives.

Once stark retires ill certainly be applying. Job for life, just turn up and pick a team. Win lose doesn't matter.

We need to be asking the sfa what these guys are doing. The sfa clearly don't care.

Perhaps others disagree and think both or one does a good job, if so let's here why.

Let's get these clowns out and get in 2 young talented coaches who can actually help us.

I have mentioned on another thread that a memory cell keeps firing off to say either Strachan and / or McGhee said that they did not have anything to do with the u - 21s.

If true wtf ?

Surely the u21s main purpose is to provide players for the senior squad !?

One thing I'd also add is.

We seem to be producing a lot of potentially good young players at the moment. Players coveted and being signed by the biggest and richest teams in the world.

Do we want this next generation, with all its potential getting coached by these 2?

I dont.

And Hickey is not in any of these squds

not since Bonhoff and Vogt's has there seemed to be any connection between the senior team and the under 21/19/17s. as you say there appears no strategy or co-ordination and everyone appears happy with that. Is Sbragia not also involved at some level?

The great minds of Scottish football shaping and cultivating the next generation of international players. Jesus.

jesus, didnt realsei that.  The one thig the English seem to have sorted with their International game is the stream of players who come through the ranks to the senior team..its a constant flow.....shame we cant see that and try and replicate it in some way..

Probably worth pointing out that after Billy Stark quit as Under 21s coach, he was replaced by Ricky Sbragia.  When Sbragia was sacked as under 21s coach, he was replaced by under 19s coach Scotland Gemmill.   When Scotland under 19s coach Scott Gemmill left the job to take over the under 21s, he was replaced as under 19s coach by former under 21s coach Ricky Sbragia.  And when Ricky Sbragia packed his bags for a second time, he was replaced as under 19s coach by former (and failed) under 21s coach Billy Stark.

Genuinely didn't realise this was the case. Laughable.

We need the nuke the whole thing and start again.

Our youth teams appear to be a shamble of organisation.  The u19s should exist to create and develop players ready for the u21s, and the u21s readying the national team.

Where an u21 international shows serious promise, he should be given the opportunity to train and prepare with the senior team.  Sure, players like Turnbull and Gilmour are training with international (and even world class) players every week, but Allan Campbell and the rest are not.

You think a 19-year-old embarking on his career wouldn't take a huge amount by training and being mentored by a Champions League winner?!

We are backwards in everything we do.  The other home nations create 90-cap average players who are critical to their success.

Shane Duffy would be a 15-cap player for Scotland, with a debut at 25.  James McLean would have 31 caps at 31.  No doubt at all.

We create international journeymen.

Even if they did, you know fine well Billy Stark would get the under 21 job.

I'd love to see the interview process in full flow. Just the three of them and Ian Maxwell sat round a table get tanned into a bottle of Grouse and throwing darts at the other CVs that have been submitted.
