The ferries are on their way….

…from Eastern Europe. Don’t we have a facility in this country adequately capable of knocking them out?

Given the last attempt it's probably better to give the job to people who know what they're doing, and have the infrastructure and skill base to churn them out at cost. Trying to resurrect Clydeside is all very romantic but not practical and would likely be a huge waste of public money. We should concentrate on stuff we're good at, like building satellites.

I'd be a bit concerned about the environmental impact from the more than 80 million cubic metres of concrete needed for the dam, plus however many millions for the canal.  Maybe they could build it out of Greggs vegan sausage rolls instead.

The Dalcross Airport railway station is finally under construction. It will have a whole 2 buses an hour between the station and airport terminal.

There's zero point to this when there's a perfectly good bus service from Inverness and all points east that drops you off at the terminal.

I don’t live in Glasgow and have only driven there a couple of times so take my views with a pinch of salt but this sounds like a good idea. I am a bit sceptical when councils announce stuff costing billions and billions though.

Think the guy behind that blog post was at the windup and wanted to see just how far renewables enthusiasts would be willing to go.

Better yet how about catching up with the times and do what the Faroese and Norwegians are doing with fixed links to relatively small island communities. For example, £370 million in subsidies over 8 years is being spent on the various ferry routes between Aberdeen, Kirkwall, Lerwick, Scrabster and Stromness before we even get into the financial support for shorter routes within Orkney and Shetland themselves:

https://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2019/07/23/firm-loses-legal-appeal-over-370-million-ferry-subsidy

but anyone suggesting that £100 million or so be spent on a tunnel between Caithness and Orkney would be a good starting point for a programme of fixed link building to eliminate the need for doing that over the next generation or two will soon be branded as a nutter.

I was going to argue that the £100 million cost was based on 2005 estimates and would be a lot more, but a similar length of tunnel in the Faroes was recently completed for just about exactly that price. I'm surprised, thought it would be far more than that. The Faroes appear to be charging hefty tolls to try and get their investment back which has led to some boycotting it. Problem we have is the centre of political and financial power lying hundreds of miles away in the central belt and south east of England, so it's unlikely to get the support needed to get it off the ground. And Norway have their massive sovereign oil fund to play around with.
